I would be more than happy with an equitable system where user pays.

    eg. in my petrol costs.

Not even you can disagree with that eh Putty-tat ?

Meanwhile, I am protesting by withholding my easily earned cash.

If you are pinged just a few times it will cost you more than had you paid and been compliant - Like most of us do.

as i have not paid rego for many years l did not know how much l was actually 'saving.

    400 cc...... $450
    650cc...... $600
    car...... $430

    + 6x WOFs.......$250

    adds up to approx $1700 per annum x (eg) 5years = $8500

since one reason i bike is to have the ability to park where i may; i need to pay. with the wof and multiple vehicles - multiple times a year I get rolled for cash.

it's absurd how much it costs nowadays. i don't know how kids get started in nz with the outlay.

oh, well they probably steal 650's and ride them illegally... ah!

If you had scrolled further down the page, you'll note you have roughly quoted the costs involved in vehicle registration, not licensing.

I don't want to cover costs of those that don't for whatever reason contribute to current system.

The current review in progress has this one chance to make a real difference to a great many New Zealanders, I am sad to say I only expect them to fuck it up.

Because they leach off the rest of us who pay our fees.

If everyone did it, just wait and see what law changes would come in and I hope they do so it would be a fairer system for all and possibly cheaper for the one's currently being legal.

did that big increase come into play because people were skimping their license/regos/whatever? is that the exact reason?

if it is, when it happens again will it increase by the same percentage?

The difference in rego costs is only a small fraction of the annual cost of running a bike.
But isn't the cost of running a bigger bike more than the cost of running a smaller bike? Parts? Tyres?

I would have thought the better question is do you own the bikes you ride?

Glad you are so proud of being a sponger.... I get a little fed up with this attitude of "protest", you are not protesting you are just not paying your way in society. I certainly do not like the current system, it is day light robbery, I feel the Government is just an organised crime syndicate at times... however I do not feel the need to sink to the same low snake in the grass level they have stooped to... Maybe one law they could pass is if an Ambo attends an accident and the vehicle does not have a current Rego (and so ACC levy paid) that they bugger off and leave you where you fell... just saying
"A man can no more diminish God's glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word, 'darkness' on the walls of his cell."
    C.S. Lewis
