Rego cost (not a complaint thread!)

I'm looking at purchasing a new bike soon, and am looking into insurance, rego cost etc.

Now looking at this table http://www.nzta.govt.nz/vehicle/regi...sing/fees.html

The licensing fees for 61-600cc is cheaper than 601cc and over, so looking at something like a ZX6R, I would pay the same rego as a ZX10R; as the ZX6R is 636cc correct?

Can someone with a ZX6 please confirm?

Yes, if you had the 636 you would be paying the same as if you had a ZX10R.

Some model years of the ZX6r are 600 cc, some are 636cc., but yes, with a 636 you pay.

Yes the ZX6RR is 599cc, so that would break into 61-601cc
Looks like if I'm looking at ZX6Rs I might as well check out ZX10Rs also.

It's pointless letting a couple of hundred bucks per year getting in the way of what you actually want to ride.

Only a few years had the ZX6R as a 636. It's back to a 599 now I believe.

Yes the ZX6RR is 599cc, so that would break into 61-601cc

The 2007-2010 ZX6-R's were 599 cc. What year model were you looking at ... ???

The difference in rego costs is only a small fraction of the annual cost of running a bike.

I have a 636 ZX6R and yes the rego (licence - in case SmokeU is lurking around) is a bit more. If this is enough of a reason to put you off buying the bike, then that's a shame, you're missing out on a hell of a bike.

The other option, is try find one that has a few extra months rego on it. Mine had 9 months still on it so my rego didn't cost any more than my VTR250 registration (which was due a week later).

Bite the bullet. Ride what you are passionate about, and just accept the rego as the cost of your passion.

I've compromised at times, on vehicles to save money, and have found that I keep them for shorter periods, and dislike them when I have them. All coz I should have bought the better one to start with.

Just my words of advice.

Unless you are parking your bike where wardens can catch you, I wouldn't bother having a Rego or Warrant.

Think of the money you could save...especially with multiple bikes.... like me.

my bikes are only ever 'parked' in the garage, if they are not they are on the road. but licence costs have zero effect on me, and even less on my enduro bike.
