Hi Nobby,
are you using a carnet or a deposit to import your bike? What did you do ybout insurance?
Only asking because I'm currently shipping my bike to Christchurch...
Danke vielmals!
Regards
Oli
Hey Oli!
I have a Carnet, about insurance I'm not sure yet, probably I'll get a contract in NZ when I'm there. Insurance is not an obligation in NZ as far as I know, you "only" have to do WOF and registration.
How long will you stay in NZ? Perhaps we could meet on the road and do some travelling together...
I'll be there till end of January, the itinerary is not set yet, depending on weather and how long I stay at the different places...
Ride on!
Nobby
Hi Nobby,
we'll be arriving in Auckland Jan 3rd spending five days in the north. On Jan 8th we'll fly down to Christchurch where we'll pick up our bikes. (Tanja takes a rental bike, I'm freeing mine from customs). We'll also stay until the end of January. Only fixed date / place is the DB1K.
And no, it doesnt't really pay off bringing the bike for a three weeks journey![]()
Would be nice to meet you somewhere!
Regards
Oli
Hey Fella,
Do you plan on coming through central otago at all in your travels?.
If so pm me as we could possibly put you up (Beds or big lawn).
As for gravel i dont really do that stuff on the old cbx lol but danseys pass is a good shingle ride comes out at Nasby.
Cheers.

... and I thought I'm the only idiot who's sending his bike to NZ
See you guys on the road![]()
Hey Kiwi Cowboy!
That's great, Otago and Danseys pass is on my list already. I probably accept your noble offer! If no bed is available, the lawn would do it certainly...
With a cbx I wouldn't do gravel rides too... but I don't mind tarred roads, as long as they're not straight, so if you got time we could do some fine riding together.

Huh, DB1K is a bit too hard for me...not speaking of the route itself but of 1000km within two days, 10-15 hours driving per day...
I don't consider me faint hearted, but that would have been fun 20 years ago, younger, stronger, lighter bike...
Nowadays I like to enjoy the scenery when driving more than the challenge of hardcore gravel roads or gravel riding in high speed - at least when it last the whole day...
But: Do you know if it is possible to do the route befor or after the DB1K? The gpx-files are avilable as download in december...
Well, no...but that's not the matter
Sometimes you just want to say:
Should be possible to arrange, I'll send you a pm with the number of my mobile and email, so we can get in contact easier then.
So long, Ride on!
Nobby
Ryan has limited the access to the route because a large part goes over private land with no public access. But I think, there are routes of previous DB1ks available in the archive that have less restrictions. You might want to check this out.
Please do so, might also be able to give you some tips for nice routes. We've been to NZ on bikes three (long) years ago.
Cheers
Oli

Greetings bobby, can offer bed and garage in Nelson anytime except week after Xmas as am heading down south on my bike then. Want to ride the Caitlin's. Nelson is a must see and golden bay almost compulsory...book into shambhala for accommodation there.

We met Nobby last Friday and he had Fish & Chips at our place. He rides a tricked out F650GS Dakar and is a really nice guy. Don't be shy meeting him :-).
