    What's a honing stone?

I use the sanding drum attachment on the dremel.

any stone that removes materiel. generally not very much. sandpaper achieves same result.
i'f be interested in pics. were you just going for a clean up or playing with the swirly-ness?

Would have done it in about 2005. No photos. There were some edges and ridges I wasn't happy with but in hindsight they were probably good for swirlyness.
I think my main contribution to performance was cleaning up the intake and exhaust and knowing when to stop

Brother replaced the rings this year and it's back to awesomeness again...

21" front wheel, YSS PD valves, Works Performance rear shocks...

    and in 2007, DR650 footpegs...

Never got around to installing any of the 6-speed gearboxes I'd accumulated...

hone (hohn) noun, verb, honed, hon·ing.

    verb (used with object)
    3.
to sharpen on a hone: to hone a carving knife.
    4.
to enlarge or finish (a hole) with a hone.
    5.
to make more acute or effective; improve; perfect:

grind mis-castings off, bevel edges, finish rough surfaces... could even include honing the valve seats...
=same as y' hone anything else, with appropriate abrasive /stone.

    We call it port work.
But I think honing is technically right?

I've port matched the GN head an clean the combustion chamber up. Might have about 900000hp now.

yeah. there probably was a more correct terminology to be used. but i wasn't specifically referring to the ports. more the head.

but this is KB. one can't come off an argument just 'cause they might be wrong!

Probably the most economical and efficient mod possible on a '95 XR250 is to trade it in on a '96 XR400...

A hone is usually referred to the quick polish of the bore. Instead of machining it out to the next specific sized re-bore with a milling machine.

Work on the head used to be known as a "Port and Polish" ...
