Bullshit Dave, stick to you RG because you clearly know nothing about the common fault of the Mitsi motors.

A 4g63 will need two things in 400,000ks. 4 cambelts as maintainence, and new valve stem seals.

Replacement motor from a running donor car $200. Valve stem seals and seat grind, and a gasket set.$800 would more than cover that work.

So the $2000+ it cost me for a complete rebuild was compltely over the top, for a car worth less than that to begin with.

Me not appreciating his service? I fuckin doubt it.

I will concede however, that the person who took it to him can be a very nasty bitch when she wants to, so it's possible she told him to do it that way. But for him to then chase me for a bill without ever even having spoken to me before is not right.

And rings. Mate of mine once made a small fortune on a bet, he was stretched out in the back of a van with the bikes and bet the driver he could smell a Mitsi. Not every one, just 10 bucks every time he said we were following one, 20 bucks the other way if he was wrong. By the time we got home from Taupo he was up a couple of hundred, got it wrong just the once, it was a Vauxhall Chevett.

It's usually in the head, not in the cylinders.

But anyway, I paid for the crank to be built up and ground, new rods, slugs and rings. Cam to be built up and ground, including all the rockers. New valves, and retainers and everything else.

It was an excessive rebuild on a motor that should have been scrapped.

Yeah, I'm still bitter about it.

You can pick that too. If it smokes going downhill it's valve seals, uphill it's rings.

Got him to bore out a cylinder once or twice. No worries.
Hamish got him to port his FXR head. Had no worries!
Nice enough, he has two shops one in petone and one in poruia, so can't be that bad of a guy. Dad's known him for years and i always point people in his direction.
I dropped in two Vincent barrells, one to bore to size and hone to finish and one that just needed a hone. I had already had John Saywell go through them to check that all was OK and John's work is impeccable so Kerry Lindsay charges me the same for both barrells citing the other needed a bit of work but couldn't explain what.
I'm sure he ripped me off so won't be going back there

Yeah, if it's been thrashed it'll usually be both, if not it's normally the head.

perhaps he offered her some crack to give him head, and the misunderstanding started from there

So I was right. Mitsis are all poked, or will become that way. Engines are worth $200 you say. I doubt that would make the scrap value.
