    eek That'll be $880...ok let's make it $80-

Well! I got my 1st ever speeding ticket last night! I knew it I would b/c just that day I had been talking to some people about how I had never had a speeding ticket and they were all scoffing in disbelief, so last night my time was up!

I am still on my Learners License (yes I know I shouldn't be!) and I was heading back from Petone at around 10.30pm (so outside of curfew of 10pm), I has abandoned my L Plate many moons ago (suppoed to be on at all times) and the cop clocked me at 111km (supposed to be going at 70kms). Ooooooopps!

It was 1 of the guys on a bike and he got me just as I was riding up toward to Terrace Tunnel and pulled me over, He was very nice about it and gave me a bit of a lecture saying that he could have charged me for breeching to requirements of my license: $400-, riding without displaying an L Plate: $400- as well as speeding: $80-.
He said: "That's enough to make you a bit teary isn't it."
My reply: "Ummmm, yes especially when you're a student (pulling on his heart strings)"
HP: "Well have you learnt anything?"
Me: "Yesssssssssss (in a sad, pathetic, 'oh crap' voice)"
Lovely HP: "Well since you have I'm only going to charge you for speeding."

All my own fault of course, I should have gotten my full license ages ago but it seemed that every time I was going to book in the bike would break down or get knocked over or I was broke. So guess what I'll be booking for today!

I admitted to him before I gave him my license I was still on a learners and he was really good about it all.

p.s Thanks Bonez for the new instrument front, you're a star!! More choccies coming your way my friend!
My goal in life is to be as good a person as my dog already thinks I am.

good that you got away with it but i wonder have the cop does? If anyone would check the ticket it would state you were after 10pm and presumably the cop would be in shit for not checking your licence type. Oh weell. the weird and wonderful ways of law enforcement.
The real mystery is how come that fat bastard Hurley has never lost any weight.

    It's called discretion.

    Arrow Cool.

I should stop scoffing about not having one either then as I'm soon off for a ride. Nice to know there are still some decient ploddies out there, we need more of them

    Oh Cathy!
It's not that "your time was up", it's that you issued a blatant challenge to the BikerGodz. You should have immediately burnt something in homage to them, like maybe smoked up your rear tyre, set fire to a scooter, or summat.
I did the same thing a while back (ask MikeL) - was saying to him, "I haven't had a ticket in about 30 years. Uh-oh... I've just provoked the BikerGodz, haven't I?"
    "Yes."

Sure enough, that weekend I was ticketed for $300 and 40 points.

It's good that you had a cop that thought a lesson was more important than being officious. Lucky you, and good on him.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

I can yunderstand discretion but when you are blatantly breaking the law, as i said not havinga go, but i would have thought discretion would have been suited to not carrying your licence or 3km over the speed limit rather than breaking the law. If you are caught nicking someones TV but your really sorry about it would you get off?
I would imagine that a copper has to provide a reason for using discretion.

Edit: this is just a thought so dont get your nickkers in a twist.

You must have smiled at the officer real nice. Na, I'm just annoyed because the bloke who got me on the motorway for 122 on a lovely sunny day, with light traffic, wasn't so understanding.
