Just wondering if anyone knows places to get diamond honing done for cheap, paid $70 last week but have heard of places that do it for $30 in the north island. Is there anywhere like this in Christchurch?

Sounded pretty good to me! HPE did the last one, was happy with them but would be happy finding some where cheaper, its my second in a week, it all adds up. Just thought it was worth asking around, there are so many places around you can't google.
For my own education.. what is a diamond hone and why do you need it.

diamond honing what now?
A diamond hone is for honing modern nickel plated cylinders, leaving a cross hatch pattern to help retain oil during break in and gives better ring sealing, therefore better compression.

Nikasil is a brand name for an electrodeposited lipophilic nickel matrix silicon carbide coating developed in the 60s, it has been improved and each brand has their own personal mix.
So nickel plated is still technically correct.
Its like Teflon is a brand name for polytetrafluoroethylene.
You have to be particularly careful when letting a hone near plated cylinders, as the plating is normally as thin as the tolerances of the hone.
we may just go where no ones been
