The length of time some HD's sit on Trade Me

I'm stunned at the length of time a number of Harley's spend sitting on trade me. Not months, but in some cases YEARS. It seems to me that many owners are just not realistic about meeting the market. Obviously these sellers aren't in a hurry .

Well no they wouldnt be in a hurry.

Look at the average income and age of their owners.

Then the high numbers of their owners who get them out on a sunny weekend only.

My conclusion is that they are expensive toys that are either surplus to a newer toy, or a toy that's not longer a novelty.

But as for the price... maybe it isn't the price? I suspect some of it will have to do with buying someone elses idea of a custom. Unless you're prepared to pay 1/4 of the bikes price on top, to make it your own, you really need to find one to your liking.

Then there are the Harleys that will sit because the amount of money spent on them far surpass marketable value. This also ties in with the above speculation of mine.

Sold mine the day it went on TM.

Needed funds for racing so worked out what I needed and what I thought the bike was worth put a buy now on and a lower start price and gone burger. The guy flew up from Nelson to pick it up. It was a few years ago though.

Yeah but you might have valued it reasonably, or on the off chance someone fishing TM for months saw it, and knew it was the one he'd been fishing for.

My neighbor was trying to sell his for a year or more, and ended up swapping it for a jetski. Now that sits in the shed all year instead.

Besides since the RENA went aground scrap metal is a bit over supplied in NZ maybe that's why?

Correct, it isn't just Harley's. There are a number of bikes that have collected moss and cobwebs sitting on TM. I sold my last bike in 3 days when it was listed last year. I believe there is a sweet spot around the 15k - 16k level for HD's that get's people very interested. I guess I'm surprised so see some of there for so long given the strain on so many in this economy.

My first one sold in two weeks,,because it was simply worth what I was asking and had only had the standard HD tax on board.

The second one sold in one week because as the buyer said "it hadn't been fucked with" as in it was standard other than the pipes that still looked standard anyway.

Looking to buy another one I'd only buy very close to stock or brand new.

Plus what TLR say's,,,if your going to spend that sort of coin, why buy somebody else idea of what a bike should be.

And I f'ing hate forward controls too.
