Certainly it's not unlawful to get your knee down while cornering, but they may be other laws you're nudging. Like, getting your knee down on a tight right hand bend might mean you are leaning over into the path of oncoming, defying the rule of public stupidity.

Getting your knee down draws attention. It's mostly unnecessary, and could potentially be seen as not the actions of a careful and prudent driver I.e. Careless Driving. I don't think it is, but some might. Better not to risk that call really.

one of your workmates ordered me off the road many years ago when i was driving Taxis in ChCh in Lichfield St more or less outside what was Adams Apple nightclub..........because..............i had my carpet bag slippers on................

If ever I feel tired behind the wheel, I take my shoes and socks off, and turn the AC to as cold as it will go, and blast cold air on my feet. You can't go to sleep if your feet are cold. Well I cant.

Yup, if I'm driving a long distance it's jandals - and they get kicked off once I'm on the open road, don't seem to get so fatigued..

Now that I've caught your attention...................

Remember that the point of this thread was to raise the profile of the Akaroa Road crashes. Everyone who crashes out there didn't know it was going to happen, most would tell you they weren't going to crash.

But they did. Nobody can tell who is next, the only person who has much influence over your chances immediately is you.

Don't add to the list that the insurance industry is paying out on, coz there are things insurance can't fix. Like legs, arms, other body parts. Breasts too, but I digress.

Get out, enjoy the ride, but don't ride like a dick.

well if you and Denny had ever seen what a foot looks likeafter a prang were the peddle dices the foot in half... you may not be so blazay bout it. And the reason the crash was so hard was due to not being able to put as much pressure on the peddle.

*storys and photos I have seen on this are/were pre 90's cars, possable not such an issue today.

and a month or so back that person was me... I didnt know it was going to happen, and I sure as hell didnt plan on it... BUT nothing I did or didnt do could have avoided it other than stay in bed that day... my point I played it all by the book that day broke no laws yet it still happened, is opp Mataki actually achieving anything?
other than pleasing the locals that the patrols are out there?
    cheers DD

In my F100 I doubt it would just be my feet would be a worry.
But hey, at least the surgeon would have a clear view of the mess...

Lots of crashes happen with no laws broken.

Are you saying that nothing could have changed your crash? What were the circumstances? I find it hard to understand that a different line, a different speed, a different gear, a different braking point, that something done differently wouldn't have changed your outcome.

Sure don't claim to have all the answers. The riding I can influence most is mine.

The point of this thread was to cause people to think about it. That's the biggest we can have. Even if folk don't agree, and God knows, everyone doesn't, at least they've thought about it.

And the profile of donuts has risen. Cause satisfied.

I drive a pre-90's car (89) mx5 hauls up better than any other car I've driven.

If you can lock up the brakes then they're more than adequate, it's now up to the driver to use them properly.

I've driven cars where the brakes lock up almost immediately (granted these were obviously faulty). My point is there's a lot to be said for 'feel'.
