I agree: but I think (all things being equal) it would be easier to run as a deeeefence. Look at Ewen McDonald and David Bain: all I have to do is establish a "reasonable" doubt that the conduct complained of was dangerous. the original exammple was 106 in a 100 and no mention of mitigating factors that might make it dangerous: not doing it in the middle of the gay pride parade, no schoolbuses, no road hazards. Like I say, I'd run that (actually I would get the guy who works for me who does this stuff to run it for me, but you get my drift)

If a dangerous charge was given ... you would think RC would have a valid reason for that charge. We have no idea what may have occurred that day previous to him being stopped. (a reported *555 call maybe)
But the speed limit is 100 on the open road ... so even a plain old "exceeding the posted speed limit" ticket would stand in court. Should it get that far ... would it not ... ????

...if a bloke kept tripping over his foreskin and it was never witnessed, he could argue that his wang was a monster, but others could argue his legs were too short...

I'll update when there is something worth saying.

Today was my first real day at it, with interesting results.

I set up the laser at quite a few different sites, and got bugger all. Awesome, happy with that. Lots of folk went past my parked Popo troll bike, and saw me pointing the death ray down the road. Lots of propaganda value in that, without costing anyone anything.

Catches were a chap doing 122 on a bike. A distant past acquaintance of mine, as it happens. I said "122, what do I do with that?" He said "Write the ticket", which is what I was hoping for coz I was gonna write it anyway.

Another bloke I found overtaking. He was coming down the outside of a line of cars travelling in the opposite direction. He saw me heading toward him and had nowhere to go, so he just hung tight where he was. We passed with him on my side of the centreline. He happily accepted the ticket. Even he could see that what he had done was shiters.

Lasered my last bloke at 178. Yup, 178. Hope the weather is nice in the next few weeks, he's got a 28 day walk. Then he has a court case to sort out.

The vast majority of bikers rode at good speeds and very sensibly. Nice bikes, many of them too.

    Week ones report. Just FYI.

Those bloody huge veggie signs down marshlands road at one particulars vendors pad that cause customers to have to pull out towards the road to see if anything is coming are by far more of a danger than a motorbike doing 73 mph - that were pointed out to you six months ago and nudda - start with the basics that are in the constant danger basket !

Yup, disagree with the signs being so big and brash.

Tell ya what. I'll resign from the job I love, and go work for the council in a job I don't want, just so I can go and sort out the signs on Marshland Road.

    Yeah right.

Didn't know that. In Maori it's "waiting quietly and watching".

I started this to draw attention to the issues on SH75. It appears that I have achieved that. I'll keep posting stuff as things arise.

It's also good to get feedback from those who use the road as to the nature of the issues.

Not to derail but.... We have muckle great hedges at junctions as well as bloody great signs which force you to poke your nose out into traffic, cyclits etc. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

The reason I raised the point as well as another in here is through experience, I just about collected a car coming out of the veggie place in question, its not much bigger than the width of a footpath between the gate and the road, and on the right is two stonking big blackboards causing a huge blind spot to see if there's on coming traffic.

    hehehe, awesome.

Ring...the...council!!! The signs should have resource consent, and the council give those out.

A cop (particularly a filthy highway snake), can't just go knocking on doors telling people to do stuff, unless they are breaking a law.

When my better half an I toured around Australia on Bikes in 2010, most of the Police riders were in full kit as they are here. Interestingly enough when we were riding the Great Oceen road, we met a Road Traffic guy completey in black levers, helmet etc as well as the bike, (Kawasaki 1400 Concours) he told us that there are a number of "unmarked" bike police on that peice of Hiway, so you just never know who is catching you up. They had hand held lazers and bike mounted radar.

Just as well my bike tops out at 96km/h then.
