Thats interesting, 7:30 in that video says if it drops off the seat then you can still use it.

Yeah but that hole in the shell is still of concern. Maybe repairable but wouldn't know where to start.

Up to you, but put it like this... I spilled at 25kph, a scratch smaller than what you show there, and not the impact like dropping it of the bike, and no 'hole in the shell' ,,, result?
A $600 Nolan had a hammer put through the top of it and the straps cut off.

I remember a similar thread a few months ago. IRC only if the helmet hits the ground with a bit of weight behind it will cause it damage. I personally wouldn't worry too much about cracking the shell.

The shell is punctured and foam insert compromised.

Put one of those stickers on they give you for windscreen chips. Just to stop further deterioration. That CBR is still fucked tho and will need to be removed.

Damn, if money is an issue, I have a non dropped, twice worn helmet you can have for free mate. I don't like the fit of it - too big. The only drawback is it is white with pink and white graphics

Where are you mate? And what size head do you have? I am being given a new (to me) helmet by someone on here, and you can have my one to tide you over till you have enough to get a nicer one.
    It's manly colours.

Nothing wrong with it. I just hate the D ring (I'm suuuuuper unco haha)

Yer a Leg end our Kid!
While any visible damage is obvious, it's what has happened inside that counts, there is a good chance ( I say, "chance" ) that your helmet might be perfectly alright.
Butt, it seriously is not worth taking the risk.
Please take Kitty up on her kind offer or go get another, to be sure.
You will only ever need your helmet to do it's JOB once, after that it's get another anyhow.
Insurance, depending on who you've got your bike with, may well cover it.
Every day above ground is a good day!:

Thanks for the offer Kitty, I went to Cycletreads where I purchased it from, they said it should be fine. Not too confident in his information though, he told me you can essentially throw the helmet on the ground and it doesn't affect the white polystyrene stuff.

Once I get some more monies I might look at getting another one though

It would be a really useless helmet if it was fucked from dropping it 40cms.
