    touring in OZ

The wife and I are planning our next motorcycle adventure, we have been to the South Island a few times and are thinking about going over to Australia and hiring a bike to travel from Brisbane to Cairns around early May next year . Thought about sending over my bike but it really don’t look any cheaper doing that. Would like to hear some thoughts and or opinions.

Here's what we did. Went to the V Strom forum in the aus/nz section and asked if any one was keen to do a swap ride. Long story short MamaJo and I are off to Sydney next week to thrash the arse off someone elses bike for two weeks covered by their insurance! Never even met the gent!
To be fair, we won't be thrashing it but we will be going Syd/Mel/Tassie and back again. He sounds like a cool dude from the ongoing e-mails we have had and I will also look forward to pointing him out the garage on my V Strom when he comes over here.
    Try the GSX/GSXR forums?

It's great finding a dumbo like that, innit?
Exactly the reason I'm hiring bikes for my own trips O/S without the obligation to put up with idiots like that in return.
And yes, I saw the post on ST....and was initially pretty tempted as we'd love a few more NZ rides.
Glad, I didn't bite and left it to some other "dumb sucker".
Shame about stuffing it up for the next one, too, as that comment shows that you just never know who you're dealing with until it's too late.

    Grow a sense of humour!
Did you actually read all my post?
If you had you might have realised I was just joking. I have had much contact with T and have no issues at all and to be honest I think he prob is the same. But if you want to go off crying about it, be my guest.

It must really suck not having a sense of humour.

We shipped our bikes over to Oz for 5 weeks in 2009, it cost ~$2000 per bike for shipping, paperwork, insurance etc. Because we were over for a while, it ended up being a bit cheaper than hiring - and there is a lot to be said for having a bike you are familiar with, having your own luggage set up etc.

    hire,swap,steal

thanks for that , we are thinking one way hire so we can spend some time around the Townsville area to see some of her extended family, Then relax in Cairns for a few days and fly home from there. May is still a ways off but hiring is going to be the go. Plenty of investigating to do.
    What.....
