    Newsflash!!!!! Newsflash!!!!!!

    Hey everyone,
I have just heard something, that I haven't managed to find on the NZTA website. Please pass it along to anyone that it may affect.
One of my students, who has done the DDC, (over 25) did it as soon as he had his Restricted, has been allowed to book his test for 3 months away, from the date of passing restricted.
So, it looks like, if you BOOK your 6F test before the 1st October, normally only have a calender 3 months ahead, that you can go through on the old system. TEST MUST BE BOOKED BEFORE 1ST OCTOBER.

    Pass this along.

They are allowing up to 660cc, and now there's going to be mass bleating over a no reprieve 18 month R licence? Tell you what, lets allow the L platers R1's, ZX14's. Gixxers and be done with it, Darwin'll sort them out! Be gratefull they have'nt gone the 'full monty' and brought in the European style 'stepped licence' system where you'll have to reach a certain skill level before you are allowed to go up to a bigger bike. Hell on that premise, I'd say a good 60% of the riders I see on the 'Taka's/'Rapa would only ever get to ride a 125

November will make it 12 months since I passed my restricted, therefore making me eligible with the current rules for my full once I do my DDC. I really don't want to wait for an extra 6 months than I need to.

Any recommendations on where to book a DDC? I know I'm cutting it fine as most classes must be already fully booked in these last two weeks until the new rules come into effect.

The problem is that the DDC must be held over a period, no less than 10 days.

"Motorcycles are more likely to be used recreationally by older motorcyclists, rather than as a cheap form of transport for young people."

Either I'm old or my bike isn't a cheap transport.

    (22 with a cbr250...)

it won't go bang (cbr) and they are pretty cheap.. heaps of spares floating around, think I had 3 engines for mine at one point and spare lights, fairings all sorts.

So those who are on their learners/restricted now.. are they forced to cross over to the new system and have their waiting periods extended or do they get excemption because they are already in the system and following the old process?

Are you caught out by the changes to the approved course requirements for restricted motorcycle licence holders?

If you completed an approved advanced driving course (Street Talk or Defensive Driving Course) before 1 October 2012, you may be eligible for an exemption to reduce the time you spend in the restricted licence phase to less than 18 months. See the DL4 exemption form for further information.

mmm, im guessing will have to wait even longer even though already going through old system.

its for the mrs, she is just about to get her restricted before the new laws come in.. under old laws she could then have her full in about 6 months I think but now looks like she'll have to wait 18month!

not too many tempting bikes on the lams list for her.. she wants my RS250

As long as she is the registered person before LAMS day, she can continue to use it by getting a LAMs exemption...

    Hi all.
I was caught in the debate of getting my learners licence before October 1 or not bothering and just getting it after. I decided to get it before Oct 1 as it meant I could continue with the current process of getting my licence, ie, a lot quicker! I found on the NZTA website some information that said those that already had started the process had 3 years to get their full licence, continuing with the same process. This was plenty of time to complete all steps in the longest time frame.
Now I can not find this information. I will have to do some more digging as it was hard to find in the first place. I'll be not impressed if this law change is retrospective... given the info I had found earlier! Although it doesn't really bother me too much as I'm not going to be in a hurry to get a big bike! But those already in the process and close to getting their full will be most unhappy.
I'll post any info I find on the site.
    Cheers.

Be interesting to see if you can find that information again. I'd send you a beer if you were able to find that information again personally :P

If you had done it a few weeks ago I reckon it would have been smooth sailing. Might look a bit dodge doing it a week beforehand, however.

As usual, it would really depend upon who is reading the application. The change in owndership only cost you some 16$ or some such.

Worst case scenario, have her ride the fuckin thing anyway. Unless the cop knows anything about bikes, he's not gonna pick up on the fact its a 2smoker anyway unless you fail the attitude test and he gives it a check.

Dude! I think I found it... this is an excerpt:

What about people who are part way through the GDLS, and their 250cc motorcycle isn’t
    a LAMS motorcycle?
A 3-year transitional period will allow for a smooth transition for novice riders who have
entered the motorcycle GDLS just prior to these provisions coming into force. This means that
they will be able to get a full licence by progressing through the current GDLS.

    From this webpage:http://www.nzta.govt.nz/consultation...cs/q-and-a.pdf

Its a PDF and is page 5 and about 3 paragraphs down.

I hope this is real because end of this month I would've been on my 6R for 4 months AND I'm over 25. I chose not to do the course for lots of reasons and was quite happy to wait 6 months (I love my FZR). This will p me right off if I can't go for my full in 10 weeks. I DON'T want to wait another 14 months. Mostly as I wanted to be able to ride at night. I work night shift and can finish between 1200-0400 in the morning any day of the week.
