    Buying a new bike ?

ok, this is not a dig at Ak bike shops dudes, but I am intersted to hear who buys bikes locally, and who travels out of town to spend the big dosh on a new bike.

As some of you know I have just bought another new Bike, after spending about a month on test rides and meeting dealers/bike sales dudes, I ended up buying from out of town, I was intersted to learn that I am not alone in this, it seems that a lot of you townies travel out of town to buy bikes .

In the past I have bought 3 new bikes from a local dealer,(In Pukekohe) however the after sales servcie was never there, and I felt left down.

So what do you guys do ?

That's interesting, but where will you get it serviced?

I've only ever bought one brand spanking new bike and I was bitterly disappointed with the service factor afterwards, which was a big fat zero! I have no other bike shop to compare them to so it may well have just been them (Cyclespot)??

Hey Dave, have you found much of a difference between the old and new bike...I trust you've run it in by now!

I bought my SV650S all the way in Wanganui, and service was great....

The fact that I bought one of the more expensive bikes at colemans did nothing to the level of service I got.. they didn't even help me to setup the suspension for me.... and then the 1st Gixxer 750 I took out for a demo / test had under inflated tires, suspension that was soft as sponge... and now I am trying hard to sort something out with the workshop.... gerrrrrr...

I go to AMPS. Had some mechanical work done while Stu was at Holeshot cause we are mates, but the crew at AMPS is top notch now.

Even that crotchety old bugger in accessories. But going local is a big plus if it breaks.

Help with minor/service stuff I go to Kerry at Motohaus.
Both places i find very fair.

I went out of town, AFC in Palmy had my bike in stock, & they did a better deal than the local shop.
Servicing is no problem, any KTM dealer can do it, I do it now the bike is out of warranty.

    Cheers

Kerry also sells motorcycles - not new ones but pretty nice ones. So there's one place you know you'll get good service and it's local.

I brought a brand new bike from Road & Sport here in Hamilton, and had no problems with their service or support. When it got written off and I went to replace it, they were out of stock of GN250's, so I ended up looking elsewhere and found a good deal on a near new (3 month old) GN250 up in Warkworth. even thou I didnt buy this bike from them, road and sport have still done all the servicing on it, and did the warranty repairs on it when the muffler blew up, offered me good advice etc.

Quite happy to recommend them to anyone.

I went all the way down to Wellington to buy my bike. I got a better deal down there than I could have got in Auckland (and before you all start, that was before WT and I had met). The biggest incentive for me tho was the fact that I had a long ride back to get used to the bike and run it in.

I had bad service from AMPS in newmarket. So bought my bike from another dealer. Never going back to AMPS again.

I'm like anyone else and I'll whinge about stuff when the bill is a bit "big", but I can say, without a word of a lie, that I feel that I've always been well looked after by the bike shops I've frequented.

I'm one of those nightmare customers though. I'll hang around a shop, talk shit, waste time, and generally make a nuisance of myself just to see whether or not I'm being tolerated or they really do want to sell me something. I always turn down the first offer in a negotiation, then I send "the wife" in. I always wait for PMS week too.

I bought my new bike in the same town, but really don't care if the bike is bought locally or not. I go after the best purchase deal relative to travel costs. The main point is that the city I live in has got an approved warranty shop and a parts supplier then that's all I need. Any Suzuki dealer should be able to do warranty services/repairs regardless if I bought from that shop or not.

Interesting side fact, two months after purchase of my current ride, that bike shop became a used car yard!! So I had to follow the Suzuki contract onto another bike shop. Even the parts man was the same dude!

Service quality is excellent except the price is very high for those with strict budgets. Do as much servicing as I can myself but still hand over the tricky or $$$ if stuff goes wrong to the professionals, but I shop around for the best deal. Can sometimes be embarrassing if the employee of one shop you asked questions to, ends up standing behind you at another shop and hears your identical questions.

I only ask for quotes from shops which I've heard got good reputation. Some of these shops are cheap, others are expensive. Depends what you looking for determines who you going to ask. I can tell you, walking into a shop dealing with Harleys and Guzzi's and such like, it's quite funny asking them general bike questions about my ride.
90% of the time spent writing this post was spent thinking of something witty to say. It may have been wasted.
