Help!!

My rear brake is stuck on!!! It's a drum brake.

What is causing it, and how can I fix it??

Do Suzukis have like... park brakes or something that could've decided to turn themselves on?

When I lift my GN up on it's centre stand, I physically cannot move the wheel...

No park brakes, but drums can and do get sticky and seize up.

Somebody with experience with drums will be able to explain it. Something to do with the shoes, I think.

sure it's not in gear?
other wise usually there's a wing nut that can be backed off, although you 'd have to ask yourself why so suddenly is there some other factor that started the issue

Defo not in gear. I'm not sure what else could have caused it

elsewise. there is no way a drum brake will be stuck on. unless the pawl is jammed down.
they got springs and shit for that very reason.

Is there enough psi in the rear tyre?...low psi can sometimes cause 'lock spots'..

If the shoes and drum are worn it may have over rotated and jammed between the shoes, is the lever stuck in the forward position? If it is then a quick smack backwards should free it up, then off for some new brake shoes.

There's really not that much to go wrong with drum brakes.

All fixed, thanks guys.

I lost the nut on the bolt that stops the brake lever. So the vibrations were pushing the bolt out and holding the brake lever on.

At least it's an easy fix

so why did you lose it, they shouldn't just fall off, post a piccie of where it is in case you've missed something.

This little bolt lost it's nut. The vibration prob pushed the bolt upwards, forcing the brake lever to be pushed on all the time.

As for why I have no bolt? I don't know. Only thing I can think of is that when it got serviced just before I got it the guys forgot to put the nut back on.

Either way, if I screw the bolt in a bit it's all good. So I'll just go buy a locking nut on Saturday.

Anyone know off the top of their head what size nut I'll need?

Try and get a stainless steel or a zinc coaled one, as a mild steel one will rust and seize.
