There's an Auckland guy with a RC30, RC45 and SP1 lucky bastard, an English tuner by the name of Tony Scott who did most of the work for Honda GB reckons the RC30 was way superior the the RC45 as the RC45 was just a tuned road bike.

What, like reliable, fast, good handling, well engineered and oil tight! Oh and it also has that mythical thing called "character" that non japanese bike ridersbestow against their old unreliable shitters to convince themselves they own something worth keeping?

Shhh, don't tell anyone. I've seen 300+% return in 15 years on one bike and 200+% return in 10 years on another. Never mind the woodies I've had!!!

The thing about RC30's and OW's is that they can't be faked. They are, or are not. There is no grey or ambiguity. So much of the major parts of the bike are specific to the model that you can't tart up siomething else and try and pass it off like say a 916 Biposto as a 955 corsa.

Check the price of average RC's overseas such as in the UK. Average ones are $25k kiwi easily now. People are cottoning on to the fact that OW's are comparitively cheap and just as sexy so the price is shooting up on those too. Plus they built fewer OW's than RC's. The market is so strong that bikes that are previously writeoff's (ie badly dinged frames) are being rebuilt as they are economic to do so....

there's a sucker born every minute.
just because it says 40K doesn't mean it's worth that as it hasn't sold, if someone put a million quid on it does that mean it's worth a million quid just because it says so on the net?

Very true Jellyman the asking price is just a starting point be it up or down from there, whats it worth ? it's only worth what the seller wants for it and can get for it. As they went for 25k NZ here that's what it's worth here.

Don't like them myself, but whatever cranks your handle!! By all accounts they are more VFR750 with spam tin pistons than RC30 with spam tim pistons.

another incorrect statement. Just cause one went for 25K here doesn't mean they all will. If one sold that day for that at an auction two people at least had to bid it to that final price the next day the saleable value may reach only half that.
Take a look at how many bikes actually sell now at the Webbs auctions. They had a couple of well supported auctions that pretty well flooded the high end buyers she'd then it's all gone flat.
As time goes on and there's less motorcyclists in NZ and more and more bikes kept good for their whole life the market gets flooded and prices will go down. True there will be a few exceptions but watch this space.

The 25k was the retail price when new, wasn't talking about a used 1 the 40k one on Ebay is new 0 miles etc.
have seen plenty of older bikes on Trademe asking stupid money for 30 yr old bikes in average condition, a 79 GS1000en cost 4g new and a used one can go for that now, there's a 82 TS185 owner wants 4g hell they only cost 1800 when new.

Generally speaking most of the 'classic' bikes on trademe are worn out old shitters. Not much 'classic' about the things except for the price. Bloody dreamers.

Link to an RC30 build thread, if anyone is interested. This is what happens when anal retentive meets OCD and combines with avid collector. Good stuff.
