Motorcycle import problems

Hi folks,

I have a problem with my motorcycle and the import into NZ. The Bike is in NZ and had the Biosecurity inspection yesterday (no problems) but the hauler her in NZ won't give me the bike, I should pay a 700$ bill. (port service charge etc.)

In the Contract with my German hauler is a clause that the "Terminal Handling Charge" is included!

I thought that port service charge and terminal handling charge is the same.

Can somebody help me?

Is here maybe a specialist for cargo or hauler?

Ask the hauler what the difference is.

Did you not ask what expected expenses would be payable by you ... during the import process ... ???

BAF= Bunker Adjustment Factor

That's included but it's very hard for my to translate the whole contract to english.

The main thing what I want to know if THC and PSC are the same things.

only the "hauler" can justify expain that.Is he talking about the biosecurity ,gst,duty,etc?

Obviously your hauler thinks they are NOT the same thing ... Discuss it with them. Regardless of opinions on here ... it is them that has the final say.

The Biosecurity inspection I've paid myself. I hope on Monday the hauler from Germany calls me.

I Googled both those charges ... they ARE different.

PSC regards duties such as wharfage etc ... and charges required by the port administration.

THC relates to the required handling/moving of the specific item in the port.

I just went through this recently with GT Logistics. They provided me a quote "door to door" with all the fees, bottom line. They even said I was GST exempt because of my status. They originally promised the bike in about a month which that was about 3 months ago. It will be at my door next week.

I was informed their partner company would be handling the U.S. side of the shipment. They came, picked up my bike on an open trailer and transported (in the opposite direction) halfway across the U.S. to another port. The departure port I originally told was in the same state as the bike. Then I recieve an email from this partner company and they were asking me if I still wanted to transport my bike. I am like wtf, you have my bike! After they found my bike eveything was cool....until

I get an email for GT logistics asking me to send them the quote they originally sent me. They said someone had broken in and stole their computers. stuff happens so, I sent it.

A week before my bike arrives in Auckland, I recieve another email from GT asking me to send the invoice of what I paid for the bike. I sent it and told them again, I was GST exempt just in case they were thinking about charging me.

My bike clears customs, they send me the bill and it was like for $1000 dollars more. I look at the break down and they charged me for GST. I had to jump through a couple hoops to final get that striaght and they sent me another new bill. This one was for a couple hundred dollars more that what they originally quoted me. AT this point, I am tired, fuk-it just give me my bike.

Sorry for getting on my soap box. My point is you have to watch these guys carefully because I'm not sure if they are doing it intentionally, overloaded or just stupid. Anyway, if I was you, I would ask for a break down in price of all the fees. Then you can see where the fees are coming from . If it helps any, below is a copy of the fees they sent me minus the shipping and delivery costs. I hope this helps.

One more thing to note, the fees inside NZ you have to add GST for those. Only the price of the bike can be exempt from GST.

FWIW when I brought my bikes back from Asia the same thing happened to me - I was not expecting it as the quote was "all costs door to door" but... I hadn't read the fine print. I shoulda been more careful. The charge in my case was about NZ$600 oer bike, slightly over a year ago. Good luck!
