    Stuck throttle - gn250

Hey guys, so on my way to work I noticed that even when I was laying off the gas my bike was still pushing forward more than usual (being a 250 and all it tends to pretty much stop when you lay off the gas). Coming off the motorway and I notice that no matter what gear, it is stuck at approx 3500-4000 revs. Managed to get it into the garage at work safely by using the clutch and neutral.

Come to my question: is this likely to be a frayed cable? Or what else?

    Ahh yes.

Well I have ended up just taking it into Wellington Motorcycles as they were able to look at it this morning, decided after searching the web a bit it was probably not worth trying to get home in one piece in this wet and windy weather here today for my 45 min ride!

Check the idle of the bike. It could be set too high; I sometimes find that when my bike warms up fully/after around 20 mins of riding, it idles about 500 rpm higher than usual.

did you read his post? He said it is stuck at 3500-4000rpm. Thats not the idle being "set too high" and certainly wont "come right" when warm..

She's taken it to "Crashers mob" to look at ... no doubt they'll find the issue.

It costs money maybe ... but better that a weeks worth of internet diognosis to sort it ...

    Her post*

A high idle has the potential to produce forward momentum - Just look at how "stunters" keep their bikes going while they are holding onto the pillion grab behind the bike...

mmmmm.....I understand the mechanical side of how a "stunter" keeps their bike going, its not rocket science. I dont think *she is a stunter or has purposfully set the idle to give her 4000rpm. It is also highly unlikely that the idle has just crept to 4000rpm. I guess she might have brought a bike from a crazy GN250 stunter.
It is far more likely that there has been a mechanical failure in a cable, or a cable might be lacking in lube, or a throttle return spring might have failed.
I am sure Petes crew will sort it

Thanks for all the posts - and yes *she*is definitely not a stunter!

So the throttle plate and throttle hammer weren't connecting, so they took her apart, cleaned her up and she's all go again. Didn't cost a fortune either so was pretty pleased. Glad I didn't have a go at it this time...would have had the bike in pieces for ages and wouldn't have enjoyed the train (sorry train/bus) journeys (which would have cost almost as much as fixing her!) until I had her fixed up again this weekend.

Oh, and thanks the end, but the idle is generally 1500 cold and just under 2000 warm. My problem is that it slips every now and then and produces a lower idle, so have to adjust that fairly regularly. So anything over 2000 and I know something is up.

Okay so I checked mine and when warm it is actually just on/over 1500, not so close to 2000 after all.

So after getting her back from the shop I have noticed that when in 4th/5th and going steady speeds or slowing down she has been acting as if she is running out of fuel.

First off I put it down to the strong winds as I could only just feel it, but then when the wind died down a bit the other day I was still noticing it but put it down to being almost empty on fuel. Then I got sick so haven't been out, but on the way in this morning I filled her up and it is still happening.

Would this be in any way linked to them fixing up the throttle plate/carb? A quick search on the net showed that it may do but to be honest I didn't understand half of what they were talking about.

I'd check the air filter and spark plug first, both pretty easy to do
