    They would be terrible. Bicycling is like motorcycling - you shouldn't be looking down at the ground, and these will encourage riders to do just that.

    Not to mention you are only allowed white forward facing lights on the public road.

    'Specially if they're the reasonably heavy duty items you'd need in broad daylight.

    And now that I look again; the bike is parked nicely in the shadow of some trees...

    Not only do they add to your visibility at night, they also create a safe space around your bicycle that most drivers and other riders will subconsciously stay clear of.
    That is utter bollocks. The only thing they will create is an illusion.
