    Quick Q

    For Aucklanders.
Best place to buy a Shoei Helmet?
Found a few places online, selling for different prices, wanting a matt finish, since when is that more expensive?

    Thanks,

    Motomail. College Hill Ponsnoby...

Open Weekends. They seem to have good prices too.

Yeah Motomail. I cant see how a helmet with some graphics on it is worth $200 more than a solid colour. But people must pay it.

I do like the GT Airs, shame we get the low spec version here.

There is another version than the one we get here?

Yes, overseas you can get it with a different strap system. Some will say its better, some will say its worse. Kiwis dont get the choice.

    Unless you private import it.

Matte does look cool, but it wore off and started chipping on my Shoei after 2-3 years. I looked after it well, but just looks tatty now.

Either Motomail or Cycletreads should be your first place to begin looking.

Cycletreads have good prices on the standard ones, but I just ordered a new one from Motomail because their graphics prices are better Plus if you talk to Chris, the owner, he will suss you out a good deal usually!

If buying a Shoei online (ex overseas), you won't get the 5 year factory back-up that you do with a NZ purchased Shoei. The strap system is a European standard thing, double D rings to achieve the European safety standard. Benefits of this is you always know the helmet is tight, where-as the micro ratchet can "slip" over time. There is no "low spec" - the only difference is the strap (or the head shape, oval versus round - Asian head shape or European head shape).

Now I'm confused. I am an Asian, born in Europe, living in NZ, where do I buy a helmet?

Chuck a turban on and call yourself a Sikh... no helmet required.
