You see seem to have plenty of advice and plenty of models to choose from so for what it's worth I'll add mine. I've owned an 07 FJR for just on 12months having purchased it in Auckland with 5k on the clock, I rode it back south and have clocked up another 18k over the last 10 months and a good bit of that has been 2 up. Have found the FJ to be an excellent tourer as well as having moderate sport capabilities once the paniers, wife etc are removed. Has all the modern technology you would want and is not too heavy. There seem to be a few new one's around at discounted prices due to not being the current model/year. I would say that value for money you would be getting a damm good deal. Check out the Yamaha dealer in Christchurch !!

Haha, this is a fun thread to read, if only for me being in "new-bike-selection" mode myself...and the list of prospective new toys (and purpose) being rather similar.

My list originally started with ST1300, which then led to the Concourse, FJR1300, R1200RT being added along the way. Then came a ride on a current model Hayabusa and the doubts started to set in...should I go for more sports as opposed to tourer? The new ZX14R looks the part to me as well, nice riding position and decent build quality...and for some strange reasons evoking memories of the original ZX10 from the late eighties.

Soooo Mossy, be interesting to hear what your outcome is

    Took it for a ride.
Its awesome. Very smooth and stable to ride with perfect seating for rider and passenger. It felt very large for the first 2 blocks then that feeling went away.
Rides very well at 100 even in 6th gear and shows 14.7 km per litre in 5 or 6th at that speed.

    Zx14r for me.
    Sue even likes it.

The green is nice in the light but im going to do the black one with abs.
Green SE version has the metalic paint but no abs.
Black has abs for the same price as the SE but is all gloss black.

    Kind of came out wrong.
I like the gloss black over the green. The bonus is due to the decreased colour cost you get abs added for the same sales price.
Not only do I get the colour I want I get abs at no extra price.

An extra $495 gets you quite a bit more...

I hear you but my wife has put her foot down and demanded I buy a zx14r.
I tried to make her understand the concours was more suitable but she wouldnt listen.

All nice bikes and all worth owning. Idd like all of them but the beemer had a few finishing issues that bugged me which is odd as the r1200s was the most regreted bike sold so I was very much swayed bmw way before looking.
The concours and fjr are maybe the bike after for me rather than the next bike.
I still need to wait until after finding a house so have some time to think about it though.
