    450 Motocrossers to Motard.

    Hey Team,

Just weighing up some options for next coming seasons racing. I'm going to sell my 600 at the end of the Winter Series, and was thinking about getting a 450 motocrosser and having a crack at supermoto racing. Obviously the KTM SMR's and other purpose built SM bikes are the way to go, but can a 450 crosser become competitve on a fairly low budget? I'm looking at 08 - 10 RMZ's/KXF's etc.

    Chur,

    Josh

    How about a 525SX?

Already set up, cheap as and a bit more powerful. I would of brought this if I had the money.

Fuck yeah! A 2008 on RMZ 450 will be more than competitive.

Hi mate - more after a 450 so i can run in the 450cc and under instead of "open" class motards. Also if i buy a motocrosser then i can chuck the dirt wheels on it over winter and use it as a practice bike. Otherwise great idea.

all the mx 450's will be competitive with most the field, the top few guys are spending a fair bit of money on theirs to run a bit quicker,

the rmz or kxf will both be good,

    Moto

A mx 450 is alright, but by the time you perchase wheels brakes sprockets its a bit of coin.
Only really two manufactures in the run KTM and husqvarna and really you cant go past a husky, second hand [08-10]ones still are very good
They are the best at the moment there are a few retailers, maintainace is high, but they all are.
Ktm are great but the specs on a husky is always better and they come standard. The SMRR is the model to go for

MX Suspension set up doesnt work on a motard, specially if your racing a 600 now....

If you want a motard bike get a purpose built motard. Mind you I had a mate that brought boyds 450 smr and it was a piece of shit. Think they got it back more due to $$$ also had a mate that brought a Husky 450rr and was nothing but trouble, he has gone to a yammy....

Basically you cant really have the best of both worlds

Really? I've heard exactly the opposite. The HUsky's good on paper, until the repeated melt downs drive you to the KTM ya shoulda got at the start.

    lol...funny that!

As far as suspenders go...I agree 100 %. I've road raced moto-x bikes for donkeys years and have never done anything other than slightly thicker fork oil and mild fiddling with the adjusters. It's how you turn the loud handle that counts most.

Aside from that fact, it's actually watching all the shit Will Young's had to deal with due to his misguided loyalty towards Huskys that led me to comment. Poor bastard
