    Wanted to buy

Hi, I am a newbie biker who is looking to spend about $1800 to $2300 on her first bike, preferably without having to worry about WOF/rego at first. I have been looking at GN250s as many have recommended them.
    http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/moto...-524366334.htm

What do people think of this bike? It's higher mileage but I guess that'd be ok if everything else was in good order.
    Any other recommendations?

I've also seen some bikes for sale around this price that are around the 15-20 year old age bracket. What do you have to worry about when they get to that age?

103 for rego and 40 odd for warrent. You could try your luck at $850 to buy it.

A 2005 with 27000 km. Thats not high milage. No problem with that.

I think you are on the right track.
Ride it until the wheels fall off...

    +1 on that.

Have you allowed enough $$ for your riding kit?

Do yourself a favour and pay the money to get it looked at by a professional. That is what i did from up here in whangarei when i bought my buell in wellies. For this reason i would recommend wellington motorcycles esp Pete in there. Crasherfromwayback on this site. This an excellent model in so many ways. After a couple years it will owe you nothing as well, value wise.

I'll pay for full insurance on a monthly basis. I'll worry about renewing the wof/rego later. Gear? I have a helmet, proper gloves and boots, kevlar jeans and a ski jacket. I should really get leathers but I think what I have now is ok for riding around town - not really for motorway riding. If I got someone to have a look at this bike and it was ok, then I'd have money left over for gear, otherwise I'd put it on course-related costs.

It looks alright from the pictures, but says 'sold as is' (although I guess whether it says that or not it's implied with TM). A thirty year old bike could have more worn out parts, and I am also just learning about bike maintenance as well as riding.

It looks ideal for what you want. A much better choice than a chinese scooter, and its already in Wellington. Have someone from on here look it at for you before you commit though.

As is would describe anything on trade me that you give over your money and take away.
The GN would be the better of the 2 bikes but check the forks for rust on the sliders.
Its hard to tell if its a shadow or if the front guard has been dinted so it would be a good idea to get someone in the know to check the forks etc if it is a dint.
Ill have a look at the bike if its in Wellington city if you cant find someone to check it. Or even both bikes.

Thats also just been listed.I asked for a buy now prior to bids. Their is plenty of tyres for sale cheap for gns as a few of the new gn125s have had trail tyres installed to run on farms.
