    Value of servicing re trade-in

My bike is coming up pretty close to a "major" service (valve adjustment and stuff).

I am considering trade-in to a newer bike. (Been looking at Bandit or cough*bandit with fairing*cough? GSX). My plans keep changing due to things like client payment delays, Daughter getting job overseas and Wife quitting her job, but anyway ...

I was wondering how service requirements affect trade-in value.

In a nutshell, if a bike is due for a $700 (cost to me) service, will that actually make $700 difference to whatever value the shop gives as a trade in?
Measure once, cut twice. Practice makes perfect.

They might quote the job at retail and try to take that amount off, but we all know if they take it into stock they'll just service at 'their' cost for less. Be smart about it. Same as when a customer is trading a car in with us, although we do quote trade rates. Might cost you $600 to do the paint and panel on your car, but it might only cost us $400. That's what we'd take off.

It's all about the deal. Depends on what you're buying...the margin left, and obviously how much said dealer has to pay you for your bike etc etc.
