Where to buy tyre irons?

Hello All,

I need to buy a good set of tyre irons for roadside inner tube puncture repairs (KLR/DR, etc.) on tours. I need robust tools that will do the job well in the field. I don't need some dainty little titanium kit that looks pretty and will fit under the seat.

Does anyone have any suggestions for where I can get a good set of irons up here in Auckland? (I have tried Moto Mail on Ponsonby Road, but the shop assistant sniffed at me from the other side of an 850 cc Aprilia scooter and a row of pink Vespas, and said that no-one carries that sort of thing up here.

The next step will be a tyre-changing contest over a few beers. (This could get ugly.)

The set on T7 looks good for shop use - we've got a couple of the long curved levers and they are nice to use.
For out and about use the DRC (?) ones with the ring spanner on one end are useful. Even if a bike shop doesn't stock them, you should be able to order them in.

Bought a couple from Cycletreads last week for under $10 each...seem sturdy, they had some with T shaped handles too...check their website??

Any bike shop should be able to get you a pair in - if they haven't already got them in stock.

I picked up some Buzetti (sp?) levers from Cycletreads a couple of years back, they feel solid and despite having crap technique I've managed to avoid pinching any tubes...

the Buzetti are much better than the twainese ones most bikes shops stock and sell, any decent bike shop will be able to source them, (eurobike wholesale them) i have had a set for 10 years and swear by them

There are various brands the ones shaped like spoons are great also and always use a rubber mallet too help fit the tyre , a good set of irons/spoons will last years I've had my set for over 30 yrs.

Got shorties, DRC spoons and Buzzetti 15" Michelin style biggies.

The Torpedo7 Michelin style are muuuuch cheaper than the Buzzettis.

At home I use the Buzzettis and a shortie.
On rides I take the DRC spoons and the shortie.
