Hyosung GT250(R?)

So I have an opportunity to get a Hyosung GT250 for pretty cheap.. (Some guy owes me money - long story)

However the bad part is that It's been sitting outside our flat for about 8ish months it has been covered though. The bike was dropped off here, fixed then stopped working again - So I'm quite curious to see how much it will
take to get back on the road). I really want to get off this death trap scooter and on to something that will actually stop when a car pulls in front of me.. lol.

Is there anything I need to check on these motorcycles? (Probably going to need new tyres with sitting in the sun and not moving for so long?)

What kind of work needs to be done to get them back up to scratch? Engine oil/Brake fluid change, engine and carb checkover and possibly chain?

Do you guys know if there are there any wreckers around that have GT250 parts?

I'll throw some pictures up soon, just gotta take the cover off the bike.

I would secure ownership before spending a cent on it.
Then find a place undercover to house it.
Then make sure you have the right licence to ride it
Then you will get lots of help on here from owners of those bikes

Will do, just wondering if it's actually worth it though - It could be a fucking massive mission to get it up or running or it could be easy...

I was looking for advice on what parts to check on to see if they're bung or not (to see if the trades worth it)

Well, apart from the engine not running:
Check chain/sprockets
Brakes, pads, lines, disks
Steering bearings (there are youtube vids on how to check 'em)
Swing arm/shock bushings and the shock
Cosmetic damage
Tyres
Fork seals, forks soft/hard/leaking?
Controls easy to use? IE, clutch light, gear and brake levers light
Electrics, lights etc
Check the oil level while you're at it, no coolant in a GT250, so that's one less hassle

Find why it's not running and go from there

What kind of money will this GT250 owe you if you take it from him?

If you end up getting it and need to source some bits and pieces and cant get them second hand,
Try the website above, they do reasonable shipping and its new parts at a good cost, takes about 3 - 4 days to ship to your door,
Alot cheaper than dealing with Hyosung New Zealand.

whether its worth doing will depend of exactly whats wrong with it, probably worth taking it somewhere and paying for a half hour of labour just to see if they can diagnose it. could be terminal might just be a fuse or something stupid

Awesome! Thanks for all the information - Once I get a spare moment I'll check over the bike hope it's not too rusty.

Tyres are surprisingly fine, no cracks or anything - Little bit of rust on the brake disks - Check more once the covers completely off..

I'll keep thinking about this - he owes me around 800-1kish so that's all I'm really looking for. I was thinking I could get a niceish 150 2stroke(I know, I know) for around 2k
instead of getting his bike, considering I would have to repair the bike and get a wof and rego. (6 month wof + rego = 700?) and plus repairs.

I think I'll let a few weeks go, pressure him for it then see what options I have.. Does anyone have any idea as to an not working hyosung GT250 would go for?

If you pull it to pieces, then there is money to be made as these are raced, and stupid little things that keep breaking in accidents are always wanted by the race guys.
Also the plastics are wanted by learner riders who drop theirs....

The wheels are quite valuable (Like $300+ for the pair), as somebody might want them as spares.

It will take time, and you will be left with a frame.... but you never know, somebody might want that too (if they bent theirs).

Then with all the funds, buy a Ninja 250r

Yep that sounds like a really good idea Either that or a 150cc 2Stroke goes about the same speed at a ninja. 2stroke just costs less and is more cramped..

If he owes you that little money, do it.
Don't worry about a 150 two stroke, anything that "goes as well as a Ninja" is slow.
I'd tidy up the Hyo and ride it, get yourself some tools if you haven't got any and start learning.

if it'd been standing for 8 months+ ? I would suspect that taking off the carbies and stripping them down will reveal a lot of the reason it wont start.. evaporated fuel that leaves a 'varnish' and crap inside the carbs.. strip them down, you may need an ultrasonic cleaner to do it properly. Put in new fuel after draining all the old stale fuel out.. new battery and try it,,, if it then starts even badly... you are more than halfway there...
That should be your first 'job' unless you simply want to drain the fuel, battery and try it... but the 'varnish' crap may have blocked the jets, 'glued' up the float valve in the float bowl preventing fuel getting through, etc, etc, etc......
