General question about the price of fish

    Two bikes/same year (2011) same model...different dealerships
Bike 1 has around 5500ks loaded...$12.5K asking price
    Bike 2 has 0 kms...$13K plus ORC.

Bike 1 would be slightly the better buy because of price (the actual difference is $854 after ORC) ..but why only that much?...

The reason I ask is....when I bought the FZ8, it had 800 kms loaded on it and was a staggering $2K cheaper than the one with 0 kms.

What people are willing to pay ?

Example=My own bike a 1966 Triumph Saint is worth more than a brand new Bonnie,,so the last bloke that made an offer reckoned.

Who really knows,I wouldn't pay what he offered.

Maybe bike #1 would be $2000 cheaper if it was at dealer #2. Ie, perhaps dealer #1 is just generally expensive?

    Perhaps...on both counts.
Dealer #2 are also saying....Save $1000, which is probably correct, and if that is so, then the price difference is around $1800.

At a guess Dealer one has had to finance his stock and that old model bike owes him more than he can sell it for as its been sitting for ages.

the other dealer may have the bike on consignment and only pays for it when its sold.

Dealer 2 may have got a factory rebate to move old new stock. Best bet is to check the list price for the same bike as it was in 2011 to see what they sold for back then. You may find dealer one will give a better trade in on its bike that could make it a better deal.

I only judge a deal by the difference in price between my trade and the new bike. List prices dont mean anything if your trading a vehicle.
They may mean nothing if you have a bartering position of having no trade in also.
Negotiation is the key to good prices on larger items.

They have something you want and you have something they want(monies) so barter a bit to see what deal you can get.

You'd have to ask the dealership selling the 5500km one. Maybe it's got some extra stuff shoved into it that they feel justifies the price. Or they expect to be talked down.

Either that, or the dealer selling the brand new one has a spanking great big deal on it.

Another reasonable reply to the question...
I am not in the market nor looking for another bike...but some one who is, should have some light shed in thier direction when reading through the thread.

Yeah, either the dealers work on different markups or there has been price movements. Currency has appreciated a lot recently, not sure if importers hedge, or how they deal.

For new bikes, they only get them on 90 or 120 days interest free type of thing on the floor plan, then start paying. Ultimately, they can sell the bike at a loss, so they need to move quickly.

Bike 1 was sold for $1000 less than the asking price.
