    El cheapo radar detector

I've seen these a380 on trademe for about $50. They don't have an output socket for an earphone, but has anyone tried them?

Only reviews I found.. seems to work but doesnt like rain (rain causes malfunction).

laser detector is good but when it rains so it affected by the rain because when I have it on the highway to signal in places I drive that it does not sound when it's dry weather malfunction September 29, 2012

I wouldn't waste $50 on a detector, there's a reason it's that cheap. However, I do have a Bel STI, one of the most expensive but best.

btw, laser detection is basically useless on any device, as it works so fast by the time it warns you, the signal is already returning to the cop's gun...

I'm still waiting to see a decent comparison between a selection of cheap radar detectors and expensive ones from brands such as Beltronics or Escort. There are some cheap ones here.

why would you not just get a good one instead of wanting the best of the cheap ones.??

they are cheap for a reason fella, save up ya pennies and get a good one, how many cheap nasty ones do you see on bikes.?? none, they are all the good trusted brands that guys put on their bikes.

Here's a few sites to get you started :-

Don't buy a cheap one.. just make a small pile of your hard earned dollars and set it on fire.

I use an STi, had a V1 and played with an Escort X50. The X50 is reasonably cheap and would be effective.

I already have a Beltronics detector, but I don't see the point in paying 10X as much if the product is only 20% better. I don't see many bikes with radar detectors since it's a bit difficult and dangerous to try and look for a radar detector when the bike is moving or when I'm driving, and when bikes are parked up somewhere the owners are usually sensible enough to remove it.
