Can a cycle computer work on motorbike?

Just wondering if anyone has got a cycle computer to work successfully on a motorcyle, ie a motocross /trail bike.
if so how was it mounted.

You mean a push bike speedo?. I had one mounted on my old Buell, one of these i think?

Simple to set up and very accurate.. just need to measure outside diameter of wheel and set it in the computer.

I had one on my XJ900 when the speedo was giving trouble.

Needed to extend the wire from the pickup to head-unit.
Wireless ones WONT work.
The transmitter on the wireless model is VERY low power and will only work 'line-of-sight', not past steering head cables, headlights, steel etc.

Make sure you purchase one with a HIGH max speed. Not less 200km/h

For the Wheel Magnet I used a small piece of a Harddrive Head magnet ~2mm x 5mm in size and inserted this into a piece of heat-shrink and then glues to the front wheel rim with 2 pot glue.

I s'pose its not so much an issue for a trail bike, but for road use most of the bicycle ones aren't illuminated.

There's also the whole Trailtech range, if your budget stretches that far.

Yes they do. And the wireless ones also work. Wheel size is not an issue as you program it to your wheel size. I have one on both bikes. the one on my Bandit reads the same as GPS.

Wireless ones have a range of 70cm so if the sender and head are within that your fine.

Ive found the Echowell brand ones to be by far the best.

Only issue on my road bike is that it wont do over 199.99 kph. Not many bicycles go that fast.

YES - for a while on a dirt bike...

Mounted the screen easy, mounted the pickup on the fork guard - the cable was long enough so no extending needed.
My gasser already had a magnet on the wheel so I didn't need the supplied magnet. The pickup needed to be very close to the brake disk to detect the magnet.

Worked fine and seemed to be about as accurate as friends crfx speedo. It served it's purpose in that I was able to determine how far I could go on a tank (planning for Tussock Buster).

Didn't take too many muddy bogs & river crossings before the pickup stopped working though, so now it's just a clock
Maybe more expensive ones have better sealed pickups.....?

If I buy another it will be the trail tech endurance II.

Might be a bit late on thread but I did one on a KLX300. Made an ali bracket for sender. (Put tape on tire to get circumference and mark distance as you roll along ground and punch that into computer)
