    What year CBR250?
I've done Auckland to Pahiatua (40km away from Palmy) on a '91 MC22 CBR250RR and it wasn't too bad.

Been looking over that LAMS list.

    KTM525?

    Really?

    'Berg TE300?

I'm pickin' there's not much industry input, there.

Pretty crazy the number of off-roaders on the list. I don't know what half the letters mean so spent a few hours looking them all up...

I suggested that in another of mysticbeagles threads, not as blatantly.

I do like that wee Honda, another run forever bike.... 'm looking for a gymkhana bike. Hm, horizons broadend.

I wouldn't bother, you'll lose more money than buying the same thing second hand.
It may be a bit down on power for long trips (some may say, I've ridden worse for long periods of time) and I doubt you would be cramped on it

The Honda VTR250 is a better bike, smoother, more power/torque, easier to use, cheaper to buy, cheap to maintain, look cool etc
Or the Honda Hornet/CB250, seriously good bike, possibly the most reliable 250 you can buy and a nice motor too.

That's about the decision I came to. I just got a tad drawn in by the "brand new" factor. But yes, as soon as you turn that key, you are losing money. Need to keep it for a good few years to get your moneys worth out of it and (being the speed freak I am) I will want to upgrade from a 250 too soon. Better to start of as you mean to carry on I reckon

Take a Bandit/GSF250 for a ride if you can? I think one would fit you well, and they're another reliable bike, bloody cheap for a decent 250 too (I know of one for sale, fuckin' buy it, no it's not mine)

I guess it could be worth trying...
Keen to get something around the 500 mark though

The 'Berg... let's just say neither of them comes within a bull's roar of the kw/Kg ratio they're quoting.

Forget the Ducati, you would have more fun on the VTR250,probably worth more when you have finished with it to,least its likely to still be running.

The CB400 Super Four isn't LAMS legal.
They're a great bike though, if you change the bars. Mine was hellishly uncomfy on any trip over 100km.
The Ducati would be a grouse learner bike.
