As soon as I get home from work tonight, the Blackbird is getting wheeled out and I'm off from Tokoroa to Coromandel Township. It's the first time I've been up the Thames coast road in the dark since fitting twin 100 W Xenon bulbs - should be awesome in the twisties.
Night riding is great fun, made even better riding by the water in pitch black conditions and minimal traffic. Hope that it's a magic run.

The trip to Coromandel on the 'bird in the dark last Weds night was superb. Virtually nothing on the road except for me and my thoughts. The run up the coast road was nothing short of sublime with the calm water reflecting all the stars and ripples. The only drawback was that for the last 50 km of the trip, the cool conditions had made my bladder fill and I REALLY felt every bump in the road. Come on female KiwiBikers, you know that guys never stop for anything when on a journey! I had a couple of days on my own working at the bach and on Friday afternoon, rode 50 km back down to Thames to meet my wife on her way up from Tokoroa.
Several hundred bucks the poorer after a bit of shopping, she got away to Coromandel in her MX5 whilst I was still kitting up so it was a great excuse to have a bit of a chase. Just north of Thames, I came whistling round a bend to find a Highway Patrol car pointing towards me. Fortunately, the occupants were stopping southbound traffic for some unknown reason so it was a bit of a let-off. After that, the rest of the trip was pure magic, one of those rides when you can drop into a "Zen state" and travel rapidly and ride well with no apparent effort - wish all rides were like that! The trip home was a bit of a mission yesterday with torrential rain and gale force winds. At one stage, I got blown across the road and also had a 2-wheeled slide when I rode over a slick strip of tar on a bend near Paeroa. Nonetheless, it was still quite enjoyable and was a good skills refresher.
All in all, a great few days - pity about having to go to work!
