    Question Gn250 or Gb400?

    Hey guys,
How bad is the fine for riding a 400 on your restricted?
Cause my clutch is on its way out and it would cost more than the worth of the bike to fix it.
So instead of buying another 250 to last me until my full, i thought i could buy something a tiny bit more powerful. Like a GB400?
(Im getting my restricted in September if that makes a difference.)

    So what do I do??

i think you'll find the 400 so much easier to ride. as in less gear changing. what usually happens i people stay on their learners for years till they buy a bigger bike... then they have to borrow a 250 to do thier liscence. i dont think your looking at more than $400fine if they do stop you. just dont get stopped ay. take it easy on the roads.

Got pulled over on a CBR600 while on my learners. Cop had chased me along most of beach rd on the shore as I was scratching it around most courners. Didn't even know he was behind me until Takapuna. Only got a warning.

That was many a year ago. Todays coppers have gotten way more serious.

Assuming your GN would pass a WOF it's worth a minimum of $800

I'll bet a hat full of farty beaver arseholes you could sort your cluch for way less than that!

Naturally, if you don't want to do that I'll come and take that pile of GN crap off your hands! hell, you seem like a good sort, I won't even charge you much!

Get the GB. I rode a 600 on my restricted and never got pulled. I got my full right on time though because about 2 days later the cops pulled me over for a random licence check.

I personally think that GB's have heaps more character too. They probably handle better.

For breaching the condition of your licence - I believe $400 is the going rate. Repairing a clutch on a GN250 - Probably around $300.

    Your call.

    Arrow I would not bother.

I'd stick to the 250 until obtaining my full. Pretty much what I did. It aint worth the hassle I reckon.

Talking My 1st cent in my new bike jar.

yeah I think that I will just ride around on the GN till it runs out of steam or I get my full licence then buy a new bike.

If I can afford it though I'll buy the GB while I have my restricted so I can choose between the GN and the GB. But the prob is the expense of keeping them both legal at the same time. But since my other half likes GBs so much he might go halfs in the legalty part if I let him use it, since he has already agreed to pay for the fine of me riding a 400 on my restricted if I'm pulled up for none other than a routine check.

Good grief –he’s whipped! Pay for your fine? Sheesh.

Ok well here’s an idea, get him to stop being such a nancyboy & fix the clutch on the GN. Worse case; a set of friction plates, but if you pack a few sparkplug washers under the clutch springs & buff the plates gently on smooth concrete to remove any glazing, chances are it will go for a while yet.
Don't you look at my accountant.
