    Wheelies rule!

Yep, for all you anti wheelie noobs, I did another one today!

I did at least 100m, prob 150m, I'll measure it when I go back to work next..... It was a 2nd gear liftand powered into 3rd and held. Wasn't overly high, only about 2.5 feet- 3 feet high.
    I had an audience too.......

The rush and the feeling of freedom and control, gotta love it.

Wait for it, I can feel it coming now........ the slander and bollocking from the doo-gooders....

Travel about 300 mts on the back pegs with a lift at about 11 oclock then you can say you have done a wheelie....once again, im just an observer.

    Blip

This was just a quick power blip on the driveway after work. Had a few observers so just popped her up and fed it some gas......
I like small ones, though longer ones would be cool if I had more space. I won't do em on the road.

Seriously man, who the fuck cares?

There's something inherently disturbing about people who have to do their masturbating in public.

    Good on ya!

It's something on my todo list to learn. I've read a bit about the techniques.

There seems to be 2 schools of thought for learning:
    1. Forget the clutch and bouncing suspension business. Roll on 1st gear wheelie. Focus on throttle control to maintain lift
    2. 2nd gear, rev and dump the clutch wheelie. Makes for longer wheelies

I need to find a safe place and practice.....

Honestly, can anyone tell me what is wrong with a controlled wheelie in a safe place? Sure breaking the speed limit in town is a dangerous, more so in on one wheel. But out on the open road, no people about, no traffic, pulling a wheelie and holding it for a k or two puts no one else but me at risk.

Sure, but its also that attitude that means we now pay $500+ a year to license our bikes.

.... back in green and feeling great ....

    Absolute bollox!

ACC went up to pay for everything else that isn't covered or easily paid for.

Explain to me why I have to pay an EXTRA $190 for my van over last year. The same applies to utes.
    It's pure thievery, that's all.

A mate used to park in the yard at work and at the end of the day would pop a wheelie on the way out on his TL1000. Amused us all no end when he lost it and barrelled into the Coke machine. Result? Coke machine front totalled, TL1000 a few hundy in repairs, ego damaged beyond repair and the rest of us laughing hysterically. Ahhhhhhhh, the sweet taste of other people's humiliation..........

I don't know about you but I'm as safe on the back wheel in a straight line as I am on two wheels. I've wheelied the entire straight of Ruapuna, numerous times, at speeds over 200km/h and never fallen off. In fact I've never fallen off due to a wheelie. It's called control and involves the ability to read the road, your bike and the way it's acting. I've had wind catch me, the back go into a weave, the front crossed up, and I've always brought it down safely.

I don't do wheelie to impress others, I do them (when the time is right) because they feel great. I love being in communication with my bike, I like them to be 'talking' to me, moving around under me, giving me lots of feedback. I get that on the back wheel, the concentration required is another step up, the feedback becomes almost part of you. It's not for everyone, and not everyone does them for the same reasons. But if you are in control and acting with your brain and not your ego a wheelie need be no more dangerous than any other factor of motorcycle riding.

    It"s all good!

I love it that some are frugal and up tight. It helps me appreciate the fact that I own a bike that I can play and have fun with.
It's only a bike, and if it was written off, wooptie, its worth perhaps 10k to replace which is not a hell of a lot at anyrate.
I have learned to ride as a child, motorcross and dirt track and hundreds of hours of wheelies...... All these nupties that are anti wheelies must be sad boring individuals. I have no condemnation, but perhaps if they learned to ride they could learn some fun expressive tricks too.
There is nothing dangerous about doing wheelies, it's all a matter of balance and control of power and acceleration. If you can master the handling and feel of your bike you will be fine.
If your starting out, highly recommend having a go on a dirt bike on the grass. Its fun and exciting. It also helps learn control of your bike too.
I do gradual wheelies, usually just powering in on 2nd gear. My 1050 Speed Triple doesn't require slipping the clutch, the front wheel pops up with a simple casual rev. It's so light that it is easily up, and controlled. You just hold it on through the transition gearing up as you need.
