WR250F 2006 Yamaha

I have not done any trail riding for years and decided it was time to try something different to road and adventure riding, so I splashed out and bought a 2006 model WR250F Yamaha a couple of weeks ago, had my first ride last weekend. What a blast this little beast is, seems so light and very manouvreable, plus it has quite alot of go when you open it up. Did about 6 laps of Pirinis Track and only used half a tank of gas. Plus it has an electric start, no more kicking, how easy. Cant wait for my next ride.
My previous bike was a good old XR250, no problems with it but I have now realised how far these bikes have come in 10 years.

I had a steel framed '05 when i first started doing trail rides. i think in 06 they change from an steel frame to an aluminium frame, so none of this might matter to you?! but i think the motor is the same. The bike hadnt been looked after when i bought it and it needed alot doing (wheel bearings, suspension bearings, chain, tyres......ect)

What i did do was remove the factory restrictors, one is a bolt in the throtle cable box, removed it so the throttle can open right up, another is the jetting, mine acctually came with the larger needles in a kit for it so had them fitted, i belive they put smaller ones in for emissons. also i removed the spark arrestor out of the exhaust muffler. i heard of another restrictor called "the gray wire", im not sure on this but i belived it removed an electronic rev limiter, sound too dodgy for me so i left it alone.

Im not sure if this is true for the '06 model but it completly transformed my bike, so i hope it helps you out.

The WR was a good work horse and i couldnt fault it, but i found it quite heavy (and im a big fella!) and slow turning. i prefer a sharper handiling bike and personly i needed more power. before i sold it i rode some other bikes to compare it to and the only thing that i found i really liked was the big ktm's so i now ride a 525. but still remember all the lessons the WR taught me.

2007 was the steel to alloy frame on the wr, the yz got the face lift in 06

One of my all time favourite bikes. A little soft for fat gits like me and not the most powerful bike I've ridden, but HUGE FUN! Congrats on the purchase, hope you have many more happy hours on the beastie.

Read up a few mags and reviews, most of the reveiwers say exactly that, not the fastest, but all the reveiwers came back with big smiles on their faces. I am happy so far.
