    Classic bikes for sale.

Does anyone know who it is that's selling this stable of bikes?

    http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/moto...-523346319.htm

He seems to be doing a good job of alienating a number of potential bidders.

A mate of mine is one who has asked a question (and is seriously interested in the bike) but is now on the verge of telling the guy to stick it up his arse.

He's playing a dangerous game - with the bike having reached reserve.

Someone needs to tell him that the way to achieve the best price is to have as many involved in the bidding as possible.

Just a fundamental lack of understanding of how trademe works, and the fact that you are allowed to give contact details for vehicle auctions, because some people are a bit odd and like to check out cars and bikes in person before they buy them.

    Or just mental.

There's no fundamental misunderstanding at all, looks like he knows exactly how Trademe typically works for these things and can't be fucked with it. He's not interested in running a temporary museum for people that think they might be interested to come look at it. You can see it, it's all there, it's nearly 30 year old two stroke, it'll need work. Either suck it up and buy it, or fuck off; that appears to be his attitude, and fair enough.

Ive got all those on my list. but agreed he is being a tool. And after some bad experiences I would be very reluctant to buy a bike unseen again. Especially if I live in chur chur and it is in Kaiapoi.

Interesting how actively you seem to be discouraging bidders. I won't buy a bike on tardme again unless I have seen it, after some bad (and to be fair good) experiences. Your excuse about tardme rules is incorrect by the way. and you'e expecting people to drop over 40 large for your collection sight unseen? Yeah, that'll work.
    wonder if he will answer?

I am bloody tempted by the RZ (and the RC30)

If you say to him here's a hundred dollars for your time, I'm going to come and look, he'll sort it out and refund you the money if you buy it; he suggested it himself.

I've been watching the RZs for a little while, and I can't be bothered with the hassle of sourcing parts etc; same reason I don't have an NSR250. Better off with the RG500 as much as I hate to say it... remanufactured and aftermarket upgrade parts are easy enough to get, and the end value will be much higher too.

I get that, but part of the deal with selling anything is dealing with fuckwits and timewasters. He seems to think that those rules dont apply to him because he is selling potentially collectible motorbikes.

and he can get fucked if he thinks that I would pay him a hundy and then if I decide not to buy I dont get it back. What if the RZ doesnt turn over? what if the pipes are corroded or other unobtainable bits are fucked, i.e. a real freason to not buy it (though even if its a shitter its current bid is cheap - I acknowledge that). And he pissed me off by talking about "retail": What the hell does that mean in this context?

I think the 'rules' only apply to you if you want them too... he's obviously willing to take the risk that he'll obtain a lower price, and it appears he considers that good value for money.

That bike will need some love; don't buy a 30 year old bike and not expect that! Presumably he means value on the open market, and given what those shitters have been going for as of late, he's probably not too far away in his estimate. In the end serious buyers will already know what a rebuild is worth, and will factor that in accordingly.

You seem to think I have no experience of buying 30 year old motorcycles.

I own three 30 year old motorcycles.

If you're paying top dollar for a 30 year old motorcycle (as these bikes have the potential of realising) you'd be fucked in the head to just rely on the say so of the seller.

Asking to view (and indeed, expecting to be allowed to view) any of these bikes before purchasing is perfectly acceptable.
