Yep ... I thought Hawera was a bit of a stretch on a bike with a 160 km range ...

Is this also a good place to mention I'm annoyed when I only get 600-650km per tank? Best so far was about 750km I think...

    I do well if I get 300 km's ...

But the only time it's bad to have a large (full) tank of petrol ... is when you are on fire.

or ... trying to pick the bugger up after it's fallen over ...

There are a surprising number of fuel pumps scattered around the south island. You don't need a town to have a fuel pump.

For example ... Ikamatua has a 24 hour card pump. With a roof over it.

I threw in the R just so you Southlanders would get stuck rolling your RRRRRRs

The number of times I have shot passed Hawea township and I've never actually taken the time to have a look at the place. Is it worth a stop for a coffee break in Hawea. Trouble for poor Hawea is it's too close to Wanaka and WANAKA is the destination. I will be riding the south in a few weeks so maybe I'll take the time out to check out Hawea. Yeah, Hawea. Maybe Hawea is nice. I might like Hawea. Especially now I can spell Hawea without an R.

Not a hell of a lot in HAWEA. Nice spot though, good shortcut back through to tarras and the lindis pass through HAWEA though.

There's pumps with 91 and diesel there. If the bike needs 95, do what I did and take a bottle of octane booster.

I did the SI with a tank range of 200km to fumes and it was slightly nervous in parts.

160km to fumes will actually stop you from going to certain parts of it unless you carry a can of gas with you.

No way, I'd rather stay in Hawea than Wanaka. The campground is brilliant.

I prefer the other end of the lake myself, Kidds bush.
