I want to get out on the race track - Palmerston North

    Heya Team

I want to get to a track and race a bike, perhaps start out small say 125-250 and see if I'm any good at it. Are there any track days or events where you can go along and take a race bike for a loop? Prefer if the track was near Palmy (Manfield?) but I'm not fussed about travelling as far as Taupo for such an event.

I've heard of a Honda Track Day but haven't been able to scratch up too much information about it. Perhaps someone here is in the know?

Bring the bike you've got - get a feel for it with other new comers in the 'novice' class. Most of us started there.

    Racey.

Are you serious ? He doesn't want to take HIS bike out on a track !! Hell he might crash it or blow it up or something !
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    Bowls can wait !

The only place I've seen people lend bikes to total strangers for a roll around a track is, dare I say in the real bike racing forum, Buckets. May not be what he is after.

If you take a ride down to your local Honda Dealer, the nice people in there will tell you all about it.

Failing that, there is a Vic Club Track Day on the 25th (Next Sunday), and a MotoTT Track Day in the New Year.

Take your CBR out. It is SAFER than riding it around on the road!
The comment about crashing it, or blowing it up was in jest. You have much less chance of doing that on the track, and if you do you have less chance of hurting yourself.
Then there is further risk mittigation my way of St Johns at the side of the track if you do hurt yourself.......

Remember to ask the organisers if it is okay if all the clothing you have is textile. Some won't let you out at all, others will only let you in the novice class.
Or, for a few $ more you can actually do a road based course at the track with ProRider (Click on the bog banner in my sig), and learn a few more skills.... Gets you on the track, and some coaching (which can help with road and track riding).

Or contact Moto Academy NZ for a racing-based course of coaching at the track.

(Reubix has already phoned and we had a chat, so fingers crossed I enthused him sufficiently).

    G'day team

Cheers to Steveyb for the chat, but it looks like I'll chicken out this time around as Honda Riders Insurance wont cover the track day regardless of it being a 'non-timed tuition based track event' (how I sugar-coated it to 'em). They will only cover me on the Honda track days and there's one coming up in January.

If there weather is fine at Manfield this Sunday I'll come out for a gander regardless. I've always wanted to race something as a kid but thanks to a wrapping of cotton wool all I ever got was the safer alternative mentioned above; xbox.

Bucket racing holds appeal to me at the moment, low-power, low-cost, highly entertaining. I lack the funds to invest in the sport at the moment (bike, trailer, etc.) but if anyone out there is keen to let me have a blat on their ol' bucket let me know!

    Quite honestly Rueben,

You will be better off contacting a recognised coach such as Karel at Pro rider,As roadrace commissioner for MNZ,I am currently working with Karel and Dan Ornsby and we are working on a graded licensing system,These people will teach you ALL you need to know before going racing as well as performance based training and are qualified coaches,Theres far more to racing a motorcycle than just trying to go fast and these people I have mentioned will guide you where needed.
