How often do you ride/how many km on your ride?

So my only vehicle has been a bike for nearly 3 years. Seems too easy clocking up the ks, got the hyo up to 60,000ks
The Honda is starting to rack em up too at 24k atm

So how long do bikes last? (sure how long is a piece of string) But really how many ks would you expect a bike to go for?
How many ks have you got clocked up so far? Would you sell your bike before the ks get too high?

11k in 8 months on my Keeway 250. thats from new. Still on ome tires, chain etc. Daily to work, weekend rides, took it to the brass monkey, has been to the march hare, is going to winchester this weekend, and Ettrick 3 weeks after that, expect to hit 15k by xmass. Then to woodstock in january.
For the price paid, I will ride it till it dies, I expect another 18 mths min out of it. would be happy at 4 years. Cheap motorcycling by any standard.

how many kms you expect it to last depends on your willingness to maintain it. a guy in the us has a 2000 cbr600 with 240,000 MILES on it - and hasnt had to touch anything other than do the clutch once, and do plugs, oil and filter.

some people get rid of a bike when they lose a gear and dont want to pay to get it fixed - the sky is the limit if you care about your bike ad invest in it wisely. my cbr600 had 145000km on it, was stock, and had never had the motor opened up.

Bike's life depends on the bike itself and how it's maintained. A reliable bike could go for a very long time, just depends what you have to start replacing.

I know of 3 CB900s that have done 100,000km+. An ex courier one has done over 200,000km and just recently had some engine work done I think (after 200k). A mates at 140k ish, mine at 110k. Goes for a service as per schedule and away we go again. I haven't heard of one actually being killed yet...

My BMW, I've probably done almost 60k in a little under 2 years. Hell no, I don't replace for high km... I would change every year or so... taken me about 2 years to get the BMW exactly how I like it. I envisage (because of the cost of upgrading) I'll probably keep the BMW for several years to come, which should mean it will pass 200k at some point. I don't know how much of it will be original

Apart from the basic design of the bike, maintenance is the variable. I had an XJ900 from new to around 250,000 kms. Always serviced according to the book, although I did extra oil changes in between. Helps when you can buy the 20 litre oil drums at staff rates though...

I don't do big clicks nowadays, maybe 15,000 per year. I ride to work all year unless it's really pissing down, then it's the car. That said, my current bike is all tweaked to my liking, and yet it's set to be traded in the next few months. The hard part is deciding what to get next...

Had my GSXR since late April, had about 14000k on it now up to about 21000k, with 7 weeks of not being ridden due to an incident with a dog. Previous bike (250 Bandit) owned for 18 months, went from 33000k to 66000k.

Motor untouched apart from the replacement gearbox cluster that went in last year
Its a Honda folks ... my last 2 were written off .. not quite as innocently as Hitchers experiences ..

I do something between 5000 and 1000kms a year on my bike while Mrs Berg manages 30000km a year. We try to replace them at between 50-60000km as the resale seems to be easier. That said, I normally buy low km 1 owner or demo bikes so the first owner has taken the worst of the depreciation hit.

I probably do around 3,000km a year. I ride the bike for a few weeks/months, then something breaks and it sits in the garage for a few months while I save up to fix it. Then I get it fixed, and the cycle repeats itself.

That was two trips to vist me mum down the road a bit.

Doing quite low ks at the mo but have done plenty despatch riding and touring. All my bikes have done over 100,000 except the first a CB160 way back in the late 60's. Current bike, VFR and its ticking over k's watch like and of course no cam chains to bother with. They do 250,000 so regularly its normal and few in Germany have done 360,000k without engine overhauls. I always move off asap keeping revs low until temp needle moves and of course oil changes like a babies nappy but less smelly.
