There is no need to go to a dirt bike riding area to gain experience on 3rd World roads, the Wellington council brings them right to your door.

Aimee, you've just reminded me of two awesome books about a chick that rides through South America and Africa on a dirtbike ALONE! They're called Lois on the Loose & Red Tape and White Knuckles. Very inspirational!

    Check out

    http://www.silver-bullet.co.nz/

the events pages shows trail rides on in all areas so you can pick & choose which ones to go to. But obviously some decent offers of help are worth investigating to just start off.
Don't you look at my accountant.

    Yay Broxy!

Just an update: I've now had a lesson with Peter Broxholme (Broxy Rider Coaching), and can't recommend him highly enough. He was able to organise Partner and I loaner bikes, and did an absolutely splendid job of getting me up and running.

    a) it'll improve my road riding
    b) it looks like fun
    c) the kinda trips i'm wanting to do in a year plus's time might well require my being able to ride on bad, third world country roads :P

SO! Where do I start? I've had a look and can't seem to see anyone in this region doing lessons or, if they might, one seems to need one's own bike. I was hoping to be able to give it a try for a time or two before buying (another) bike...

    Thanks!

Have posted this question over in the adv section, too: http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...start-learning
get yourself good dr 200 or honda xr 200 , theres few doggy xr 200s i brought one of them

Watch out for rusty rear suspension aprat from that they cheap and easy to keep going

Not to heavy well maybe todays bikes are way quicker and lighter but there a good start.

Oh make sure get knoplie tryes fitted as trails ones are crap , only just worked that out only been 3o years .
