What is the issue there .. those that want to pay the extra levy price (for a bigger bike) ... are free to do so. If they want to take the risk ... and can afford the full levy.

LAM's are for a class of (licensed) riders. The levies are for a class (engine size) of bike..

I doubt if many L plates will be attached to 650 cc (and over) bikes anyway ... but can happen now.

    Well I'm doing my bit.

No way in hell will they ever take more off me than they did before the change in registration charges.

Considering the LAM's legislation is a huge improvement on the previous restrictive legislation .... I can't see how (or why) people should whinge about it It doesn't actually affect anybody that already owns a motorcycle over 650 cc ...

But I guess ... that's just what some people like do

    I think THAT'S the Government's fault ...

ACC levies are so high because motorcyclists don't have the capacity to unite behind a lobby group. ACC motorcycle levies have nothing to do with actual injuries. They are an arbitrary tax applied to a group who looks like they are more vulnerable than most (despite the most expensive customers for ACC being a bloke with a chainsaw, a woman with a wheelbarrow and a woman riding a horse) and so can be targeted with made up stats and just because. The constant ad hominen whine about other motorcyclists "making our levies so high" is just another sign that the Government has not only won, we believe wholeheartedly the propaganda they used to justify raising it. Well I don't but I picking that you've perhaps bought into it?

It was a long term cash grab, based on making ACC a commercial medical insurance scheme.

How's this for a cunning first step for milking motorcyclists? They allowed the top end of the capacity range for LAMS bikes to exceed the second tier of ACC levy charges.

Stop blaming other motorcyclists for our failures at politics and have a think about how we can present a united front that is socially acceptable and therefore garners public support. "Motorcycling NZ Inc." needs to have at least a weekly presence in the press. Every time a motorcyclist is injured or dies there needs to be an expression of sympathy and call to investigate the causes of the incident and an offer of support to families, first responders and investigating agencies. Every time more than three motorcyclists get together and give money to charity there needs to be a motorcycle friendly article, not a hugely inaccurate piece of fluff written by a 12 year-old female reporter with one eye on a telly job telling us how lovely bikies are when they're not dealing P. Being visible once every 10 years or so is not doing "us" any good. Neither is using a public forum to further support the Government's "divide & conquer" strategy which so far is jolly well winning without much of a push back.

Its a good argument Jim but the women on horseback and wheelbarrows and blokes driving chainsaws aren't doing so on ROADS. Therefore they cannot be charged an ACC levy on their registrations...
I fully support your argument however.

That would be because there are probably only a tenth of a percent of bikers who don't habitually wear a lid.
Oh,a biker killed last year ago a few kms from where I live from head injuries following a crash, sans-lid. That'll be the tenth of a percenter for this city I guess.

Registrations shouldn't have ACC levies at all. We all already pay something like 2.5% of our income towards ACC so why should some groups have to pay again when others like horse riders and rugby players don't.

This tightens the turban suddenly and causes severe headinjuries, fatal above 50 kmh.
Turban checks on pullstart injuns to be included in WOF inspections
Red button push start Injuns however are exempt.

I don't wear a helmet either when I am sikh,
pretty dangerous to fill up helmet and block visor when you throw up...

Rugby players do pay ACC. Its in their membership subscription fee at every club in the country. And all the semi-pro to full time professional players from regional through Super 15 and of course, the All Blacks pay it as well, from their salaries...

Its like saying why should I pay 30% fucking tax when you may only pay 20% and some pricks pay none, like akzle because he's such a clever bastard, being separate from this society and all that BS...some carry others due to being easier to tax because their activities are more easily monitored.

Try accurately measuring horse useage so as to levy the rider an acc charge...

Sikhs don't have to wear helmets because their heads are pre bandaged in case of a spill. That way they don't feature in the stats, because there is no treatment required
