The obvious question needs to be asked: Did she wave back? (As I assume you did not forget this important part).

May the bridges I burn light the way.

Well I regret I was too busy tapping my helmet to wave ... and while she didn't wave at me, her hair waved a bit in the breeze ...

Sooooo, you figured she simply didn't realise she wasn't wearing a helmet?

Or perhaps you were tapping yours to show off?

Or, you were being chivalrous and offering her your helmet?

I would have given you the finger, and loudly expressed that I can do what I like if I'm willing to suffer the consequence.

So you saw a girl riding the other way in a semi dressed state and started tapping your helmet?

    Hypothetical -

If I took the keys outta my bike (ie no engine power), and coasted down the hill, would I be breaking the law if I didn't have a helmet on?

Helmets must be worn whilst riding a motorcycle. Under power or not. On road or not ... in any public place (A public place is defined as anywhere public have access)

    Stand by for a shocker.

    No helmet on a bicycle.........$55.

No helmet on a motorcycle.........$50 and nil demerits.

Prec S101. Anyone at work care to clarify.......we don't get many of them, so I'm not sure.

Unless its changed in the last couple of months.

We get quite a few for wearing a helmet but not doing the strap up, which is the same offense. Failing to wear a securely fastened safety helmet.

What is it with these idiot with straps not done up? Do they think the vacuum inside hteir head will hold the helmet in place when they arse-up??

Or even worse, those ones riding a push-bike with the helmet hanging from the handle-bars and banging on the knee all the time?

Are they some kind of super-athlete that can scoop the helmet off the handle-bars, strap it on - and do so while flying through the air after T-boning the car that pulled out of the drive-way on front of them???

I see cycle riders sans helmet quite often. I asked a member of the local constabulary about it and the reply was to the effect that the cops will stop a child without a helmet and give them a come to Jesus talk. Adults they ignore. If the adults want to kill themselves that's their problem.

Which gives me a problem. If that law (or any other) isn't going to be enforced, get it off the books. Fat chance!

I badger the adult riders - I give them the argument that 'little guys emulate what big guys do' (OK, I don't use the word 'emulate' when talking to slack-jawed troglodytes!!) and tell them the younger ones who are less proficient (OK, I also don't use 'proficient'...) and more likely to crash also see 'big people' not wearing helmets and think it's cool to be like them...and not wear a helmet.

They mostly see what I'm saying.
If they don't - second time is ticket time...
