    Weekend tyre service in Christchurch?

Going to be down that way next week, what shops (like cycletreads in AKL) are there down there that I can just walk in, pick tyres and get them fitted on the spot? Particularly on Sat 29th, or Sun 30th?

*Might* need the tyres, might not. Just want to be prepared just in case.

    Cheers.

Give Don a call at pitlane motorcycles, he's usually open on weekends and is pretty good at while you wait, a wee bit out of town at Darfield. Ph. (03) 3187924

If your tyres are that 'iffy' would you not be better doing them before you go? If you're not sure if they need doing or not then they probably do

They're actually fine. But they're full road tyres. New years is in at Loch Katrine at the end of 50km of gravel and 4wd track. I'll be 2 up with the kitchen sink. If it rains, I dont want to be on those tyres trying to get in there. If it stays dry, no problem.

Definitely recommend pitlane, he's half an hour out of the city but is open sat and sun and closed Monday Tuesday. Be worth emailing them first

Run some K60s ya silly boy, then you can do road and gravel to a reasonable degree...

If you're thinking you might need tyres, I'd definitely be checking they have something suitable in stock...

Loch Katrine on my last visit is graded all the way in now, locked gate at Katrine preventing further trafi up to Sumner, sure can be muddy from there on.

But yes these days you DO need to pre order tyres with Pitlane, Don just dosnt have the room to keep in stock however would not and can not reconmend anywere else.

Just out of interest, I think Jimmy at BMS Motorcycle Service in Sandyford Street was going to be doing a deal with Don.

I think he and Don were going to partner up, with Don buying the tyres, and Jimmy fitting those that didn't want to head out to Darfield.

    Just what I'd heard.

I quite like the ride out to Darfield. Nice ride out, bar meal while the tyres get fitted, nice ride home. In fact that was my first trip out of town for 11 months last time I got tyres fitted. Don knows his stuff too.

No I doubt that very much, he was thinking about reopening the town shop but finding someone to trust with the shop is more trouble than its worth and Don will never be back to chch.

God, you can't plan for EVERYTHING!

I think Gary Inman did it right: I haven't ridden for years so I'll buy a Benelli TnT and ride it across the Sahara on Michelin PRs.
