Christchurch Traffic Dept (the good old days)

I wonder if the bikes were painted black & white?

Did they have 'high' speed pursuits back then?

What's the chances of Rastuscat's grand daddy catchin a horse and dray?:2thumbsu

The front sprocket looks small too, so all high speed persuits would have required hills.

Of more concern is the lack of mudguards....I can just see it, flat out down Colombo St in hot pursuit of a speeding cart and zig - zagging to avoid the heaps of horse crap.....

When they did get bikes as we know them, the old man serviced them at Bells shop.

Another piece I have found describes the police using a stopwatch and their knowledge of walking and cycling speeds to estimate if a vehicle was speeding.

Four mph on the straights and 2 mph on the corners. ( proposed)
