    Heading north up the Whanganui River Road?

    hi there, i'm thinking of traveling from wellington to auckland via the whanganui river road on a blackbird. Just wanting to know if anyone has riden it recently, whats it like?

    did it @ year ago still gravel before Jerusalem may have changed by now, do able on the bird just take your time

    Did it earlier in the year. The gravel section is shrinking slowly. It was pretty dusty when I went through. The odd rougher bit where some slips had been cleaned up but doable on a road bike (I did on my Vee though) if you use caution.

    Did it on Sunday on a Daytona 955i south to north the road is in clean condition and the gravel is ok its only about 12 ks so not a major on the bird..

    If you feel the need for a refreshment on the way stop in at the gallery at matahiwi,they do a good cuppa and there is cold drinks etc..
