OK KB keyboard Harley Davidson bashers. Checkout this dude

    http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/s....php?t=1346643

This a dude travelling around the world on what most "KB tall poppy HD bashing twits" would laugh at. The equivalent of doing it on a classic bike. He is presently doing what most Kb'r keyboard warriors dream of doing .And on your own patch. I live the belief I have been taught. It is better to have thought about it and tried, than to have thought about it and not tried at all.

To be fair, that's not a bad choice. I mean on other bikes a breakdown on such a voyage might be a serious issue, but on harley, chances are you can cobble it back together with some tape and a few sticks, probably be an upgrade too

The broken down ones are probably all AMF shovelhead sportsters.

My father gave me a book a few years ago about a guy who rode around the world (and I mean everywhere) on a Honda Goldwing... Best read ever!!

    Here's a link... http://www.emilioscotto.com/bio.html

It's not the bike that matters, it's the journey.

I'm currently traveling around the world with my bike, a 76 XLH.
I see he hasn't managed to get home. I know a few other guys who took a long time to get home whenever their bikes broke down.

I think the point is, that this young fella, like many do at his age decided to do his OE on a motor bike, peculiarly a bike that has had serious shit tossed at it as being a horrible bike by many bikers world wide.
And yet, here it is In NZ! and with photgrapic evidence of it traveling here via the American plains, the Rockies, surviving transportation to auzzie, then here to NZ and has taken its young rider to bluff! And despite things failing, is still doing it!
OK all you bashes, show us a 37 year old bike of any sort that TODAY would be able to do the same thing.......

The Kid has true biker grit and determination...how many of us could even attempt this around the world, with just the clothes on our back and a old bike........One in 10.....20.....30....or maybe 10 on the whole kiwi biker site!

I know I would never be able to do it...But I respect both the bike and the rider in the blog.

Me too, I would love to do something like that. But thanks to being a complete and utter fuckwit when younger there is no way I will be able to. Much respect for those who do though.

I don't see how it makes it any better than a flubbery turd?
The guy doing the traveling is cool though. If funds permitted I'd finish my GN/DR and do it, doesn't exactly make it an amazing machine though ('cept it'll rip a Sproty in half)

Eeeeer sorry to widdle on your rant,,,,, but isnt there a published book about a couple of Kiwi's who did 'similar' on two Panther 600/650 singles?? at a minimum 15yrs if not 20-25yrs older than the Hardly Ridable.

I've ridden one of those AMF sporty's..... All credit to the guy, they truly were/are horrid pieces of equipment to ride.

    Full credit to the guy...

Not to detract from what he is doing ... When we were young (shit that was a while back) we thought nothing of leaping on our late 40's early 50's british bikes and heading off to all kinds of places. The thought that it would terminally explode never occurred to us so the biggest problem we had was did we have enough money for gas to get us home? (broke, still at school, part time jobs, no eftpos, hardly any stations open on a sunday). Akaroa, Hamner, West Coast, Queenstown etc etc (well we did have to be back for school on monday) we all places we went just for shits n giggles.

Perhaps its the 'not expecting any issues' attitude that saves us or more likely that we did actually have heaps of little issues but because we could usually sort them out and never expected perfection anyway they were unremarkable / unreportable??

I'm sorry but some of those iron sporties were terrible piles of pooh compared to our old speed twins and thunderbirds BUT I also know people that had a terrible run with the triumphs and did OK on sporties... meh....

Anyway - good on him and if I see him on the road I'll feed him and offer him a bed. hes livin the dream
