I moved to aucks bout a year ago .took two weeks to man up and split up the on ramp , now i split most of the way to work . I have a set of rules for my self :not passed 80kms :not between two trucks/busesull in to let someone faster passed. The video was good so more aimed at cars drivers .Good find on the video
Now before I watch the Vid ...

Well, that's my weekly dose of cheese taken care off.
I'd question some of their stats but generally agreed with most of what was said.
I particularly liked the comment "More motorcyclists should learn to do it safely".
When you have some real experience of daily commuting in Auckland traffic your commects may have more credibility; although you'd more than likely change your tune.
Lanesplitting is a service to all motorists; it takes a vehicle effectively out of the flow of traffic and, hence, reduces congestion significantly. It's also a damn sight safer than sitting in traffic. Saw a concatena about four spaces ahead of me on Friday. A car was hit by a van and squashed into the car in front; leaving their bumper imbedded in the boot. With this sort of accident a car gets panel damage; the driver maybe gets a bit of wiplash. On a bike you get totally pulvarised.
I don't "get away with it"; that's like saying that the car drivers "get away with it" just by getting to work in one piece.

I only lane split at lights. Bit too new/not so confident to be able to split while traffics moving. Once traffic starts crawling at 5 pm I'll be splitting then sooner or later.

Some people are only alive because it is illegal to shoot them.
i'd be well into that electric bike as a commuter. wonder how much it cost though
found one place in california that sells new electric bikes for 12k USD.
Education not Legislation
They did a video about the electric bike, http://youtu.be/Lej-KopK1tc. $14k US I think it was ?
I was apprehensive about lane-splitting at first. But I found starting out that if I followed more experienced splitters it helped give me some pointers and learn what was possible. After about 2 weeks of driving like a cager on my bike I quickly got fed up with it and started lane-splitting. Once you start .
Learning to get to the front and then gun your bike away was also a learning curve. Luckily GNs are so forgiving.
"This is not a car."
Becoming fearless isn't the point. That's impossible. It's learning how to control your fear, and how to be free from it.
