I'm now convinced I'm suffering early senility. The starter motor on the wee DT squawked it's last so I removed it for repair. Very simple, two bolts & the bash plate falls off, another two bolts & the starter motor falls off. Diggety.
After a week or three & a bill for $220 I get the starter back & anticipate a quick & simple re-union but no. The little bugger just won't quite seat properly, after much fiddling I decide to take the fly wheel cover off, the gear lever, the sprocket cover, the cover covered by the sprocket cover to finally be able to remove the gears & dodads that the starter spins. Garage looked like the before photo in a Haynes manual with all the bits on the floor. Starter motor still won't fit even with the G/F holding the bits that I couldn't, having run out of hands & feet. At this point I'm pondering the problem & rotating the motor in situ, little bastard slotted straight in! I'd been trying to fit it upside down, the end covers had been put on opposite to each other. Another two bolts & the motor was sorted, another hour & it was back on the bike. I got no less & no more than 5 starts off the little bastard before it died again.
The senile bit is me having done this 3 times now...... for the same reason......

    Was a 'few' years ago
Going on a 'trip' with the wife. Loaded the bike, put the throwover panniers on... Phone went. Was the friends we were 'meeting' on route. They had had a 'small issue'.... basically listened, got to laugh at them and their slight misfortune, one of them (him) had forgotten to pack the plastic bag into their panniers containing her undies, Sunday morning and she wasnt a happy girl with no fresh knickers to wear.. so they were delaying leaving their Motel to find a store?

(NOTE to ALL.. NEVER laugh at others misfortune, Karma WILL bite you arse) ... the call took about 30 mins, anyway we put on our gear and off we went

    Karma!.......
Guess who forgot to arrange the panniers properly? Incorrectly placed Panniers, high speed, wheels turning, panniers flapping and touching 'things' during leaning round bends... at the first fuel stop (about 160 miles) ....part of the bottom and back had been 'ground' away by the rear tyre.... Yes you guessed it. Completely empty pannier bag, AND it was the one containing OUR undies......... guess our friends had the real 'last laugh'...........
    haha that's bloody awesome!

The "Brass Monkey Incident" that the young KiwiPhoenix refers to ... is the Sunday morning ... packed up and ready to saddle up. KP was the pillion ... key in ignition ... turned it on ... hit the button ... NOTHING. As I hit the button .... the dash lights die. Got the guy with the jump start leads ... hooked them up .. STILL nothing ...

Head clears after coffee kicks in ...

Remember a simple fact ... that is common on a LOT of motorcycles ... (not just with FJ1200's)

They do not start in gear with the side stand DOWN.

I had fitted a small aftermarket fairing to the Bandit and took it out for a ride to Paeroa to see how effective it was.
Most uncomfortable ride I ever had, my arse got really sore and I couldn't figure out why - got to Paeroa and hopped off bike, a 14mm spanner fell out of the back pocket of my jeans (had put it in said pocket while I had been fitting the screen!)
You want some advice - lightning strikes once, it does not strike twice!

GSX550E, outside the old mall in takapuna on a late night, pulled up at the bus stop to talk to some dudes, went to put my left foot down and my boot lace was caught on something.Ended up in the gutter with heaps of people laughing at me.

Haha, but you show me a biker who reckons he/she has never done that...and they're blimmin lying

Bit like trying to start a bike with the kill switch in the OFF position, cranks but won't fire...who hasn't done that?

Well I've done both...although not regularly enough for it to be of concern to my shrinking ego...

I failed my test first time because my security chain fell off the carrier on the back & got locked in the back wheel. Tester stood & watched me for 20 minutes or so, handed me the fail sheet "did not complete test in allotted time" & wandered off.

This was in North East England, you never leave your bike unsecured.
