The cops are out in force in Wellytown tonite, and they collected some revenue from me.I rode in from the Kapiti Coast to attend the presentation on the Silkriders trip by Brendon at Sawyers/Motorad. Came off the motorway and down Aotea Quay and stopped at the lights by the stadium. Filtered to the front (as you do) and when the lights go green just grabbed a handfull thru 1st,2nd, buttoned off in 3rd , you know, just to put a gap back to the cars behind, dropped it into 4th to putter along into town and there in the middle of the empty road in front of me is a uniformed gent waving me over. got me with a hand-held at 67, must have been the peak before I buttoned off. Thought it used to be a 70 area along there anyway, probably before they built the stadium, the 70 signs are further back now. (Ok, I havnt lived there for 20 years, they prolly moved them yonks ago, but its hardly a quiet suburban street). My first ticket on a bike, and I was hardly doing anything outragous. Grumble. Bloody revenue collecting that one.
Then on the way home just out of Plimmerton the whole of SH1 was being diverted thru the weigh station. Compulsory breath testing. 30-40 cops (possibly from the nearby Police college I hope) standing around checking me and a couple of other cars. Yes Officer, I am having a good evening, I know my wof is valid, and yes I do know my rego runs out in 2 weeks time - I will pay it when its due, thank you.
And between there and home saw a mufti car pull someone up, and 3 other patrol cars lurking on the roadside. Does their overtime have to be self funding I wonder?
