I'd avoid battery powered units after the dismal performance of the Passport unit.

Yeah, i'd be keen to hear if anyone has tried one. They look pretty reasonably priced ($230) with an earpiece. They come with a ''12v POWER IN'', which suggests they can also be wired into your bike. MC

My experience is " you get what you pay for". If you are going to put one on the bike the Escort 8500 X50 is the one. Hard wire it. You will need to get a hardwire kit cos the plug on the unit is like a phone plug. my 2cnts worth.

I looked at this and as tempting as a battery one is I decided to leave it be for performance reasons and go for one that I could hardwire in. Never had a battery model at all but everyone told me it was best to go for a powered model. It was not hard to hardwire it in.
