Does a warped rotor affect a WOF?

Well for anyone thinking that it does are wrong as it didn't come up at all. Only the front tyre with 1mm left lol. Will be replacing that this week.

Getting the rotor replaced anyway as I don't want it to cause any damage

i would suspect it would depend on how much the warp was and who does the warrant, bet ya there's not a universal answer at all

Wasn't even mentioned at a WOF I just went through, and it is noticeable (unless he didn't notice). Shop has already looked at it previously, and the disks vary in thickness.

As long as they're legal, I'm getting some decent mileage out of them. 50k was far too short imho. Braking performance is still strong, just tricky in slow speed stuff

I've never come across anyone that was silly enough to expect a warrant on their unroadworthy motorcycle, so I'm not sure what the legal standing is. If it was a car, they would just nick you on brake balance and that would be a fail.... but there's no crabbing on a bike. Have a look in the VIRM, it has the reasons for failure list.

It's a fail. But usually it gets past them unnoticed if your rotor is warped, replace it. (After checking the mounting bolts)

Fuck Me !!! I would expect that it affected braking performance - and therefore would be a fail - not because of a warped rotor, but because of poor brake performance !!!

as per gammaguy if it come to my workshop when I was issuing wofs it would fail. The fail for this is "the vehicle vibrates under braking to the extent that control of the vehicle is adversely affected" if I could feel pulse or vibration while testing brakes it failed as if you can feel a problem with the standard wof brake test for motorbikes the brakes need to be fixed!

Did they test ride the bike or do the brake test when issuing the WOF?

I had a replacement rotor on order, but went into VTNZ Wellington as warrant was due. They did not test ride the bike (probably company policy), instead they just check the brakes while the front wheel was off the ground (spin check). I was told they check for excessive drag on the disk, which my warped rotor did not exhibit (presume the bobbins did their job).

I'd say they'd pick up on it if the rotor was visibly warped, or if it was dragging on the pads.

Yeah just go testing station, they just ask you to brake in front of them, be alright. Fixed up a wrecked bike once, discs were warped but you needed a runout gauge to measure it, barely visible to naked eye and no vibe at low speeds. Probably fully floating disc anyway which will creak and move about as per normal anyway.

I have a filing cabinet draw full of about 12 warped discs from racing. When I would replace them, I always noticed how much more settled the bike was on turn in, then I'm a notorious trail braker. I'd recommend you replace it as a matter of course, regardless of whether it passed the wof or not.

+1. The last thing you want to think about in an emergency situation is how the front end is pulsing.

Where I go, they get me to do the brake test for them out the back of the station.
At VTNZ, I never let any of those muppets touch my bike. First time I went there, the guy tried to move it up into the testing bay and almost dropped it.

Oh, except the old white-haired biker guy at VTNZ New Lynn. I always go there because he's awesome and actually knows his shit.

At the local testing station here, this old guy was checking over the 1250 ... then he put on an oilskin vest and old pudding basin helmet - and in the pissing rain rode the bike around the building on a concrete surface to test the brakes ...

I was a little freaked out ... waiting for him to spin up the back wheel or lock the brakes or something ... and drop it - he didn't.

Equally I have seen a pair of them at the testing staion spin the front wheel by hand (one person) then the other grabbed the brake lever ... they then took the bike off the centre stand. While one pulled on the brake lever the other one tried to push the bike forward ...

The bike passed both times .. but fuck me - what great testers (Yeah right!)
